A seven-year-old boy was killed in a road accident on Route 264 in the Negev, close to the city of Rahat, after being struck by a private car. Ynet reported that the child was brought to meet a team from Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, at the roadside, and that paramedics pronounced his death at the scene.
Police have opened an investigation into the fatal collision, according to the N12 news channel, which attributed the report to its correspondent Itay Gal-On. Neither outlet published the boy's name, and no details were given about the driver of the vehicle or about any arrests.
Where the accident happened
Rahat is a city in Israel's northern Negev, the arid southern region that makes up a large share of the country's land area but holds a small share of its population. Route 264 is one of the regional roads running through that part of the Negev, linking communities in the area to the larger north-south arteries. Roads of this class typically carry a mix of local traffic, agricultural vehicles and through traffic, and many stretches are single carriageway without physical separation between the directions of travel.
What Magen David Adom is
Magen David Adom, whose name means Red Shield of David, is Israel's national emergency medical and blood services organisation. It is the body that operates ambulances, mobile intensive care units and the country's emergency medical call number, and its paramedics are the officials who formally pronounce death at the scene of an incident. When Israeli media report that a casualty's death "was determined at the scene", it is an MDA crew making that determination before any transfer to hospital.
The phrasing used by Ynet, that the boy was brought to meet the MDA team on the road, describes a common sequence in Israeli emergency response: bystanders or family members move an injured person toward an arriving ambulance rather than waiting at the point of impact. The reports do not explain who moved the child or how much time passed between the collision and the arrival of the medical crew.
The wider road toll
The accident came a day after five people were killed on Israeli roads, Ynet reported, describing the boy's death as a continuation of that toll. N12 placed the incident against a running national count, reporting more than 320 people killed on the roads since the start of the year.
Road safety is a recurring subject of public debate in Israel, where fatality figures are tracked closely by the police, by the National Road Safety Authority and by civil society campaigners. Child pedestrian deaths in particular tend to draw scrutiny of road design, speed enforcement and the availability of pavements and crossings in built-up areas. The reports here do not attribute the accident to any of those factors, and no official has publicly assigned a cause.
What a police investigation involves
When Israel Police open an investigation into a fatal road accident, the work is normally handled by traffic investigators who document the scene, take measurements, collect camera footage where it exists and question the driver and any witnesses. Findings are passed to prosecutors, who decide whether to bring charges such as causing death by negligence. The opening of an investigation is a routine step after a death on the roads and does not in itself indicate that any person is suspected of an offence.
Where the reports differ
The two organisations give consistent core facts: a seven-year-old boy, a private vehicle, a location on Route 264 near Rahat, and death pronounced at the scene. Ynet supplies the road number and the detail of the encounter with the MDA crew; N12 supplies the national fatality count and the confirmation that police have opened an investigation. Neither account contradicts the other, and neither adds information about the circumstances of the collision itself.
What the reports do not say
The material does not identify the boy, his community or his family, and it does not state the exact time of the accident. It does not say whether he was walking, cycling or otherwise on or beside the road, nor whether he was on the carriageway or a shoulder. Nothing is reported about the driver: not age, not condition, not whether the driver remained at the scene or was questioned. There is no information on road conditions, lighting, weather or speed, and no official statement has been quoted from the police, from Magen David Adom or from the municipality. Whether the national fatality figure cited by N12 comes from police data or from another body is also not specified in the material.

איך בדקנו את זה
The account is based on reports published by Ynet and by the N12 news channel, which agree on the age of the victim, the location near Rahat and that death was pronounced at the scene. The national figure of more than 320 road deaths and the confirmation of a police investigation come from N12 alone; Israel.com has not independently verified either.
