Israel's Ministry of Health asked anyone who attended an event at the "Keter HaRimon" hall at 10 Aharonovitz Street in Bnei Brak on Tuesday 11 November 2025, from 11 p.m. onwards, to make sure they are vaccinated in line with ministry recommendations. The request, issued on 16 November, followed the confirmation of a measles case in a person who had been at the hall at that time.

Anyone who was there was asked to contact the ministry hotline on *5400. The ministry repeated that measles is a preventable disease with an effective and safe vaccine, and stressed the importance of seeking medical care promptly if symptoms appear or if exposure is suspected, saying timely care saves lives.

Why one case triggers a public notice

Measles does not require close contact to spread. The World Health Organization ranks it among the most contagious diseases in the world: one infected person can generate up to 18 secondary infections, and the virus remains active in the air or on surfaces for as long as two hours after that person has left. A crowded hall late at night is close to a worst case, which is why the ministry publishes an address and a time rather than a general warning.

That practice was already established during this outbreak. In early November 2025 the ministry issued a notice naming specific bus journeys between Petah Tikva and Bnei Brak, a train to Herzliya and an event hall in Jerusalem, with times and dates, and asked anyone who might have crossed paths with the two infected passengers to check their vaccination status against the national digital registry, the Times of Israel reported.

Where Bnei Brak sits in this

Bnei Brak is a city just east of Tel Aviv with a population of about 230,000 as of 2024 packed into a little over seven square kilometres, the most densely populated city in Israel and, by one ranking, the seventh most densely populated in the world. Its population is overwhelmingly Haredi, or ultra-Orthodox. Density and large communal gatherings are exactly the conditions in which an airborne virus with a reproduction number as high as measles moves fastest.

The wider outbreak

The ministry listed 14 places as currently defined outbreak areas: Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Harish, Modi'in Illit, Nof HaGalil, Kiryat Gat, Ashdod, Safed, Netivot, Haifa, Tiberias, the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council and Tekoa. In those areas, it said, people can attend well-baby clinics, health maintenance organisations and dedicated vaccination stations without a prior appointment. It recommended that unvaccinated people, and parents of infants who had received only one dose between six and 11 months, avoid large gatherings in outbreak cities.

By late October 2025 the outbreak had produced 1,644 confirmed cases and 577 hospitalisations, and a Bar-Ilan University study found measles vaccination coverage in Israel had fallen from 94.3 percent before the COVID-19 pandemic to 91.6 percent afterwards, according to the Times of Israel. By 25 November the outbreak, which began in May 2025, had killed 11 people, most of them unvaccinated children.

The ministry's standing advice

The routine recommendation is that all children be vaccinated at ages one and six. The ministry also published two Hebrew-language videos alongside the notice: one featuring its deputy director-general, Dr Sefi Mandelovitz, with heads of paediatric intensive care units, and one featuring Professor Shlomo Mor Yosef, chair of Leumit Health Services, discussing measles and the vaccine.

What the notice did not say

The ministry did not say how many people attended the event, what kind of event it was, or whether the infected person had been vaccinated. It gave no estimate of how many contacts it expected to trace, and did not say whether any secondary cases had been linked to the hall.

איך בדקנו את זה

The exposure notice, the venue, the times, the hotline number, the list of outbreak areas and the vaccination advice are all as published by the Ministry of Health on 16 November 2025 in the original release. The contagiousness figures come from the World Health Organization, and the outbreak case counts, coverage data and Bnei Brak demographics were researched and are cited inline.
