IDF says 810th Brigade found ready-to-detonate Hezbollah device near Kfar Shouba

Israeli troops say they seized an armed explosive device, a position and weapons in southern Lebanon, an account that so far rests on the military's own statements.

Israeli soldiers operating in southern Lebanon found an explosive device that was ready to be set off, along with a position and further weapons it attributes to Hezbollah, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The military said troops from its 810th Brigade carried out the search on the edges of the village of Kfar Shouba over the course of a week and that the operation has now ended.

In a post on X, the IDF said the device had been confiscated by its soldiers. The military's statement on its official Telegram channel described the work as an effort to locate what it calls terrorist infrastructure and arms, and listed the three finds: the device, the position and the additional weapons. The Israeli news site Ynet carried the military's account in a short Hebrew-language alert, describing it as a device Hezbollah had placed that was prepared for activation.

Who reported this, and how

All of the detail available comes from the IDF itself. Two of the three reports are the military's own channels, one on Telegram and one on X, and they carry essentially the same information in slightly different form. The third, from Ynet, is a one-line alert that attributes its content to the IDF and points readers to a fuller item on the outlet's website, which is not part of the material reviewed here. No independent organisation, and no Lebanese or Hezbollah source, appears in the reporting.

There is one small difference in wording between the accounts. The IDF statements describe the device and weapons as used by Hezbollah. The Ynet alert goes slightly further in its phrasing, saying the device was one Hezbollah had placed. Neither source explains how the military linked the items to the group.

What the IDF and the 810th Brigade are

The IDF is Israel's military, covering land, air and sea forces. Its spokesperson's unit issues statements on operations, often first through official social media channels such as the Telegram and X accounts cited here, before they are picked up by Israeli news outlets. The 810th Brigade is the unit the military named as carrying out this search. The statements do not describe the brigade's role or its usual area of operations beyond this activity.

Hezbollah and the term "terrorist infrastructure"

Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite armed group and political movement, and Israel designates it a terrorist organisation. When the IDF refers to "terrorist infrastructure", it generally means physical assets it says are used by such groups: positions, weapons, explosives, tunnels and similar facilities. In this case the military applied the term to the device, the position and the weapons it reported finding. Search-and-seizure operations of this kind, followed by a statement listing what was found, are a recurring form of IDF reporting on its activity in southern Lebanon.

Where Kfar Shouba is

Kfar Shouba is a village in southern Lebanon, the region closest to Israel's northern border. The IDF said the search took place on the outskirts of the village rather than inside it. The reports do not give a more precise location for where the device, the position or the weapons were found, or whether they were found together.

What the reports do not say

The material leaves several basic questions open:

  • The device itself. None of the reports describe its type, size or how it would have been triggered, or what the military judged it was intended to target.
  • The weapons. The IDF refers only to "additional weapons" and gives no quantity or description.
  • The position. The statements do not say what kind of position it was, whether it was occupied, or what was done with it after it was found.
  • Timing. The military says the operation ran over the week but does not give start or end dates, or say when the device was discovered.
  • What happened to the device. The X post says it was confiscated. The reports do not say whether it was later destroyed, examined or moved.
  • Casualties or clashes. No report mentions any exchange of fire, injuries or arrests during the operation.
  • Other accounts. There is no response from Hezbollah, the Lebanese government or any other party in the material, and nothing here has been confirmed by a source outside the Israeli military.
