Iranian official media reported on Monday evening that United States forces struck two fishing boats in the Persian Gulf, close to a port on Iran's southern coast, and that fishermen aboard them were missing. The reports were relayed in Hebrew by the Israeli monitoring channel Abu Ali Express, which cited Iranian state outlets as saying that two fishermen had not been accounted for and that search operations had begun.
A separate account attributed the strike to an American unmanned aerial vehicle. The Israeli broadcaster N12 quoted the deputy governor of Iran's Hormozgan province as saying that the two boats were attacked by an American drone in an area adjacent to the port, that several fishermen were missing, and that efforts to locate them were in progress. The Israeli news site Ynet carried the Iranian claim that the United States had struck fishing boats in the Persian Gulf and that the fishermen were missing.

Where the reported strike took place
All three reports place the incident in the Persian Gulf, off the southern Iranian coast. The Hebrew-language transliterations of the port's name differ slightly between the reports, rendered as Kharkan in one and Kargan in another, and the material does not settle which English spelling is correct. Hormozgan is the Iranian province that runs along the country's southern shoreline on the Gulf, and the deputy governor cited by N12 is a provincial administrative official rather than a military spokesperson.
What the accounts agree on
The three reports converge on a small set of points: that two fishing boats were involved, that the incident happened in the Persian Gulf near a southern Iranian port, that it was attributed by Iranian officials to the United States, that fishermen are unaccounted for, and that a search was under way at the time of reporting.
Where the accounts differ
They do not agree on the number of missing men. Abu Ali Express, citing Iranian official media, reported two fishermen missing. N12, citing the deputy governor of Hormozgan, reported that several fishermen were missing without giving a figure. Ynet's alert referred to missing fishermen without specifying how many. That gap is typical of the first hour of reporting on an incident at sea, when the crew size of the vessels involved may not yet be established, and none of the reports indicates that the discrepancy has been resolved.
The reports also differ on the weapon described. Only the account attributed to the Hormozgan deputy governor specifies an American drone. The other two reports describe a strike by the United States without naming the means.
A single-sourced claim, so far
Every element of this account originates with Iranian officials and Iranian state media. The Israeli outlets carrying it are relaying that claim rather than reporting from the scene, and each of them frames it as an Iranian assertion. No statement from the United States military, the Pentagon or any American official appears in the material, and there is no independent confirmation in the reports that an American aircraft or vessel was involved.
That distinction matters for readers assessing the story. Abu Ali Express is an Israeli Telegram channel that monitors and translates Arabic and Persian-language media, and its posts are summaries of what those outlets are publishing. Ynet and N12 are mainstream Israeli news organisations, and the items here are breaking news alerts rather than full articles. In all three cases the underlying source is the same: Iranian officialdom.
What the reports do not say
The material leaves a great deal open. It does not say what time the strike occurred, how the boats were identified, or what damage they sustained. It does not name the missing fishermen or say whether any crew members were rescued or found injured. It does not say who is conducting the search, whether Iranian naval or coast guard units are involved, or how far from shore the boats were.
The reports give no American account of the incident, no denial, and no indication that the United States has been asked to comment. They do not describe any wider military activity in the Gulf around the same time, and they do not state any reason offered by Iranian officials for why fishing vessels would have been targeted. Nor do they indicate whether Iran intends to raise the matter diplomatically or in any international forum.
Until an American statement or an independent verification of the scene emerges, the account stands as an Iranian claim, reported as such. The number of missing fishermen, the identity of the vessels and the cause of the reported strike all remain unestablished in the available material.
