Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had destroyed what he described as a major Hezbollah stronghold on the Beaufort Ridge and the Ali al Taher Ridge, in a media statement issued by the Israeli government on September 14, 2026. He called the operation "another massive victory over Hezbollah."

In the same statement, Netanyahu said Israel would keep dismantling what he called terrorist infrastructure in the security zone in Lebanon, and warned that any renewed attack on Israel would be met with heavier force. "There is still work to complete," he said, adding that the task would be finished. The release, published by the Prime Minister's Office through the Israeli government portal, is attributed to the 37th Government, the numbering Israel uses for the current governing coalition.

What the statement actually contains

The text is short and consists almost entirely of the prime minister's own words. It does not describe the operation in military terms: there is no account of which units took part, how long the activity lasted, what weapons or methods were used, or what specifically was struck on either ridge. Nor does the statement give any figures. No casualty count, no number of targets, no quantity of destroyed infrastructure appears in it.

That matters for how the claim should be read. What is on the record here is a political statement of outcome by the head of government, not a military situation report from the Israel Defense Forces, the Israeli armed forces usually referred to as the IDF. In Israeli practice the two are separate: operational detail normally comes from the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, while the Prime Minister's Office issues framing statements of this kind. Nothing in the material indicates that a corresponding military briefing was released alongside it.

The places named

The two locations Netanyahu names, the Beaufort Ridge and the Ali al Taher Ridge, are in southern Lebanon. Beaufort takes its name from the hilltop Crusader-era fortress that overlooks the surrounding terrain, high ground that has featured in Israeli military activity in Lebanon in the past. The statement does not specify coordinates, villages, or the extent of the area involved, and it does not say whether the two ridges were addressed in a single operation or in separate ones.

The phrase "security zone in Lebanon"

Netanyahu's stated policy in the release is to "continue to destroy terrorist infrastructure in the security zone in Lebanon." The phrase is doing specific work. It describes an area inside Lebanese territory in which Israel asserts freedom to act against Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shi'ite political and armed movement that has fought Israel across the border for decades and is designated a terrorist organisation by Israel and a number of other governments.

The statement does not define the boundaries of that zone, does not say who set them, and does not address Lebanon's position on Israeli operations inside its territory. Readers should note that the term as used here is Israel's own framing, and that the release contains no Lebanese, United Nations or third-party response.

Why a single-source item is handled carefully

Our account of this event rests on one document: the Israeli government's published media statement. That means the underlying claim, that Hezbollah strongholds on the two ridges were destroyed, is attributed to the Israeli prime minister and to no one else. We have not seen an independent assessment of the damage, imagery, or a Hezbollah or Lebanese government statement, and we are not in a position to confirm or dispute the military result he describes.

What the statement does not say

Several basic questions are left open. The release does not date the operation itself, only the day the statement was published, so it is unclear whether the activity was recent, ongoing, or concluded some time earlier. It does not say whether anyone was killed or injured, on either side or among civilians. It does not describe what "stronghold" means in this case: tunnels, bunkers, weapons stores, firing positions or something else. It gives no indication of whether Israeli ground forces entered the area or whether the destruction was carried out from the air. And it says nothing about the status of any ceasefire arrangement or diplomatic framework governing the Israel-Lebanon border. Until other bodies report on the same events, those gaps remain.

איך בדקנו את זה

The only source for this event is the Israeli government's own published media statement carrying Prime Minister Netanyahu's remarks; the claim that the strongholds were destroyed is attributed to him alone. Israel.com has not independently verified the military outcome, and no Lebanese, Hezbollah or international assessment was available in the material.
