Strike on a vehicle in Gaza City's Tel al-Hawa kills two, Palestinians say
Palestinian reports relayed by Israeli outlets say a strike on a car in Tel al-Hawa killed two people; the outlets differ on details and no Israeli military comment was cited.

A strike on a vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood of Gaza City killed two people, according to Palestinian reports carried by several Israeli news outlets. Ynet's alerts channel attributed the account to Palestinian sources, reporting two dead in an attack on a car in Gaza. The Israeli broadcaster N12 gave a similar account and added that people were also wounded.
Abu Ali Express, a Hebrew-language channel that monitors Arabic media, described the attack as an Israeli drone strike on a car near the Musa Arafat building in the west of the city, and pointed to secondary explosions in the vehicle after it was hit. The same channel reported a separate, earlier strike in the Amal neighbourhood of Khan Younis in which a man it named as Ahmed Mohammed Baraka was killed.

A Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket operative and a Hamas sniper were killed in separate strikes in Gaza City earlier this week, the military announces. One strike on Monday in the area of the Gaza City neighborhoods of Daraj and Tuffah killed Abdullah Munir Mahmoud Harz, a Show more

Where the strike took place
Gaza City is the largest urban centre in the Gaza Strip, in the territory's north. Tel al-Hawa is one of its neighbourhoods. The outlets did not agree on exactly where in the city it lies: Abu Ali Express placed the strike in the west of Gaza City, News.co.il said the neighbourhood is in the south-west of the city, and N12 described it as being in the south of Gaza City. Only Abu Ali Express named a nearby landmark, the Musa Arafat building.
Khan Younis, where the second strike reported by Abu Ali Express occurred, is a city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. None of the other outlets mentioned that incident.
How the reports differ
Three of the four outlets gave a death toll of two. News.co.il's report was worded differently: it referred, in the singular, to one person "eliminated" in the attack on the car. The Hebrew word it used, mechusal, is common in Israeli media for a person killed in a targeted strike, usually a suspected militant, and implies that the person was the intended target. The other outlets used the neutral word for people killed. Whether the difference reflects a change in the count as reports came in, or a distinction between a target and a second person, is not explained in any of the reports.

N12 was the only outlet to mention wounded, and it did not give a number. Abu Ali Express was the only one to specify that the strike was carried out by a drone; the Hebrew abbreviation it used, katbam, refers to an unmanned aerial vehicle.
How this kind of report reaches Israeli readers
All four reports were short bulletins posted to Telegram channels run by or associated with Israeli news organisations, within minutes of one another. Each framed its information as coming from the Palestinian side: phrases such as "Palestinians report" or "reports in the Strip" are the standard way Israeli outlets signal that a casualty claim originates with Palestinian sources in Gaza and has not been confirmed by the Israeli military. Ynet's alert directed readers to a fuller item on its website, which was not part of the material reviewed here.
Abu Ali Express is a channel that follows Arab and Palestinian media and social networks for a Hebrew-speaking audience, and in this case it was the only outlet to give details such as a building name and the identity of a person killed.
What the reports do not say
None of the reports cites a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel's military, confirming or explaining the strike, and none says who the people in the vehicle were or whether they were affiliated with any armed group. The reports do not name the two people said to have been killed in Gaza City, and they do not say how many people were wounded or how badly.
The reports do not explain the secondary explosions mentioned by Abu Ali Express, nor do they establish whether the strike in Khan Younis was connected to the one in Gaza City. The location of Tel al-Hawa within the city is described inconsistently, and the discrepancy between one person and two people killed has not been resolved in the material available.

איך בדקנו את זה
Four Israeli outlets (Ynet, N12, News.co.il and Abu Ali Express) reported the strike, all attributing it to Palestinian sources; the drone detail, the landmark and the separate Khan Younis strike come from Abu Ali Express alone. We have not independently verified the casualty figures, which differ between reports.
