Seventeen people were injured on Sunday morning, 8 November, when a bus and a minibus collided on the Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv, according to Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service. The service said its medics took the casualties to three hospitals: Wolfson, Sheba at Tel HaShomer, and Ichilov.
The most seriously hurt was the minibus driver, a man of about 50, who had injuries to his head and limbs and was listed in serious condition. A 17-year-old girl was in moderate condition with limb injuries, and 15 others were lightly hurt. The Times of Israel reported, citing police, that the crash took place on the southbound side of the highway and caused heavy congestion during the morning rush.

Israel Police reported a collision on the Ayalon Highway on Sunday morning between a bus and a minibus that left several injured. Medical teams and police are responding to the incident. jpost.com/israel-news/ar…
How the crash happened, according to early reports
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances, N12 reported. The accounts published so far point in the same direction but have not been confirmed by police. Ynet reported that the minibus driver is suspected of trying to move into the express lane when the bus struck him. N12 gave a fuller sequence: the minibus was entering the lane reserved for public transport, was hit by the bus, and then slid into a concrete wall.
The very first reports described a different scene. N12 and News.co.il initially said a minibus had hit a concrete barrier and that 10 people were hurt, without mentioning a bus. The figure rose to 17 within roughly half an hour as Magen David Adom updated its count and the involvement of the bus became clear.
Where the reports differ
Two points in the coverage do not line up and remain unresolved.

- Location. Magen David Adom, N12 and News.co.il placed the crash near the Rokach interchange. Police, as cited by The Times of Israel and N12, and Ynet placed it near the HaHalacha interchange, heading south. The two are separate interchanges on the highway.
- Who was the driver hurt. Magen David Adom's first statement said a bus driver of about 50 was in moderate condition with limb injuries, alongside 7 lightly hurt. Its later update, and every other outlet, described the man of about 50 as the minibus driver, in serious condition. The later account appears to supersede the first, but the service has not commented on the change.
The Ayalon Highway and the emergency response
The Ayalon Highway, designated Road 20, runs north to south through the heart of Tel Aviv along the course of the Ayalon stream and is among the most heavily travelled roads in the country. It carries commuter traffic into the city from the wider Dan region, the name used for the greater Tel Aviv metropolitan area. Sunday is the first day of the working week in Israel, so the morning commute is at full volume.
Like several Israeli highways, the Ayalon has a lane set aside for buses and other public transport, known in Hebrew by the abbreviation nat"tz. Under the rules for such lanes, private vehicles may not use them, and moving in and out of them in dense traffic is a recognised hazard.

Magen David Adom, often shortened to MDA, is Israel's equivalent of a national ambulance and paramedic service. It said the call reached its 101 emergency dispatch centre for the Dan region at 08:48. The hospitals it named all serve the Tel Aviv area: Ichilov is the common name for Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Wolfson is in Holon, and Sheba is at Tel HaShomer in Ramat Gan.
Hebrew outlets describe the condition of casualties in fixed categories used by MDA and hospitals: light, moderate and serious. These describe the severity of injury at the time of assessment and can change after hospital treatment.
What the reports do not say
Police have not published findings on the cause, and the account of the minibus entering the public transport lane remains a suspicion reported by Ynet and N12. There is no word yet from the hospitals on the condition of the injured since they were admitted, no information on how many of the 17 were passengers on each vehicle, and no statement from the bus operator. When the highway fully reopened has also not been reported.
