Israeli soldiers detained four people in the Jenin area who the military says were dealing in weapons, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson. The IDF said the operation ended on Thursday and described the four as terrorists who had earlier been active in what it calls the Jenin terror network, a structure it says was taken apart during an operation named "Iron Wall."

The four were handed over to the security forces for further interrogation, the military said in the same statement, which it also posted on its account on X. Israeli broadcaster N12 reported that the arrests were carried out by soldiers of the Duvdevan unit and the Paratroopers Brigade, a detail that does not appear in the IDF's own published text.

What each report says

The core account comes from the military itself. The IDF spokesperson's statement on Telegram and the shorter version on X both describe the same elements: four suspects, involvement in arms trading, earlier activity in a Jenin network, and transfer to the security forces for questioning. Only the Telegram statement gives a day, saying the operation was completed on Thursday.

N12's report, attributed to its correspondent Nitzan Shapira, repeats the substance of the military's account in Hebrew and adds the names of the units involved. Ynet's news alert attributes its information directly to the IDF and refers to an organisation that was dismantled in Jenin, without naming the operation. None of the three organisations presents information gathered independently of the military about the suspects or what they are alleged to have done.

Where Jenin is and why it matters

Jenin is a Palestinian city in the northern West Bank, the territory Israel captured in the Six Day War and where the Palestinian Authority has limited self-rule in some areas. The city and the refugee camp beside it have for years been a focus of Israeli military raids, and Israeli officials have described the area as a base for armed Palestinian groups. When the IDF refers to the "Jenin terror network," it is using its own term for the armed groups it has been fighting there.

Operation Iron Wall

"Iron Wall" is the English name the IDF uses for a large military operation in the northern West Bank. In Hebrew, N12 gives the name as Homot Barzel, which translates literally as "iron walls." The military says the Jenin network was dismantled during that operation. The current statement presents the four suspects as people who had been part of that network before it was broken up and who, according to the IDF, were trading in weapons at the time of their arrest.

The units named by N12

Duvdevan, Hebrew for "cherry," is an IDF special forces unit that specialises in arrest operations in the West Bank, often working in disguise. The Paratroopers Brigade is one of the IDF's regular infantry brigades. Both are frequently involved in operations in the West Bank. The IDF statements themselves refer only to "IDF soldiers" and do not name the units.

What happens to detainees

The military says the four were passed to "the security forces" for further questioning. In Israeli usage, that phrase commonly refers to the IDF together with the Israel Security Agency, known as the Shin Bet, which handles interrogations in security cases. The statements do not specify which body is questioning the suspects, and none of the reports mentions charges, a court hearing or legal proceedings.

What the reports do not say

The reports leave a number of questions unanswered. None names the four suspects or gives their ages or hometowns. None says where exactly in the Jenin area they were detained, how long the operation lasted, or whether anyone was hurt. The IDF does not describe what weapons the suspects are alleged to have traded, in what quantity, or to whom. No report says whether any weapons were seized during the arrests. There is no response from the suspects, their families, Palestinian officials or any armed group. The allegations against the four come solely from the Israeli military, and the other outlets attribute them to the IDF rather than confirming them independently.

איך בדקנו את זה

The arrests were reported by the IDF spokesperson (on Telegram and X), N12 and Ynet; both outlets attribute the account to the military, so the allegations against the suspects rest on the IDF alone. The units involved are named only by N12.
