US President Donald Trump has announced that Stephen Miller, currently deputy White House chief of staff, will take over as chief of staff from Susie Wiles, The Times of Israel reported. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Miller would begin in the role on Monday, November 9, 2026, describing him as "one of my most trusted advisors."
Wiles is not leaving Trump's orbit entirely. According to the president's post, she will be "moving over to the Trump political operation," and he thanked her for her time as chief of staff, saying she had "done an outstanding job." The Israeli news site Ynet also reported the announcement in a brief alert, noting that Trump had named a new chief of staff to succeed Wiles.

Why the timing matters
The change comes days after the midterm elections in the United States, the nationwide vote held in the middle of a presidential term that decides control of Congress. The Times of Israel described the result as a rout of the Republicans by the Democrats.
Barak Ravid, a diplomatic and political correspondent for the Israeli broadcaster N12, framed the move explicitly as a consequence of that result. In a post on N12's news channel, he wrote that Wiles is the first to pay the price for the electoral defeat. In a follow-up post, he summarised the development as the chief of staff departing after the election loss, with her deputy stepping in.
Trump's own statement, as quoted in the reports, does not mention the elections. The connection between the vote and the staffing change is drawn by the journalists covering it rather than by the White House.

What the chief of staff does
The White House chief of staff is the most senior official on the president's personal staff. The position typically involves managing the West Wing, controlling access to the president, and coordinating between the White House and other parts of the administration. Because the post is filled by presidential appointment without a confirmation vote, a president can change the holder quickly, as Trump has done here with a single announcement on social media.
Truth Social is the social media platform Trump uses as his main channel for public statements, and it has been the venue for many of his administration's announcements.

Who is Stephen Miller
Miller has served as Wiles's deputy, so the appointment is a promotion from within the existing team rather than an outside hire. The Times of Israel noted that Miller is Jewish and that he is best known for his hardline positions on immigration, an area in which he has been closely identified with Trump's agenda.
The two officials have worked side by side at senior levels. A photograph published with The Times of Israel's report shows Miller and Wiles at a meeting between Trump and Mark Carney, Canada's leader, held on the margins of the G7 gathering in Kananaskis, Canada, on June 16, 2025.
Why Israeli outlets are covering it
American domestic politics draws close attention in Israel, given the weight of the US relationship for Israeli security and diplomacy. Three Israeli news organisations carried the announcement within minutes of one another. The Times of Israel's live coverage placed it alongside other Trump remarks touching on Israel, and N12's Ravid, who regularly reports on Washington, offered the political reading of the move for Israeli audiences.
How the reports compare
The reports agree on the core facts: Trump announced that Wiles would leave the chief of staff post and that Miller, her deputy, would replace her. The Times of Israel provided the fullest account, including the start date and the text of Trump's statement. Ynet's alert did not name Miller. N12's posts characterised Wiles's exit as a consequence of the election defeat, while the quoted presidential statement presents it as a move to the political operation, accompanied by praise for her work. The reports do not contradict each other on facts, but they differ in emphasis, and readers should note that the link to the election result is a journalist's assessment.
What the reports do not say
None of the reports says who will fill Miller's current position as deputy chief of staff, or what specific role Wiles will hold within Trump's political operation. No public comment from Wiles or Miller themselves has been reported, and the White House has not been quoted as tying the change to the midterm results.
