A woman aged about 90 was killed after she was struck by a truck while walking on Route 3525 near Kibbutz Bror Hayil in southern Israel, according to a statement from the spokesperson's office of Magen David Adom, the country's national emergency medical service.
The service said its 101 emergency call centre in its Lachish region received the report at 06:56. Medics and paramedics who reached the scene carried out medical checks and then pronounced the woman dead. Magen David Adom said she had suffered multi-system trauma, meaning serious injuries affecting several parts of the body at once.
Who reported the incident
Magen David Adom, usually shortened to MDA, is Israel's national ambulance and emergency medical organisation. It operates the 101 emergency number, which is the line Israelis call for an ambulance, and it runs dispatch centres organised by region. Its spokesperson's office routinely publishes short notices on serious incidents its crews attend, including road collisions, often within a short time of the call.
These notices usually describe what the crews found and what medical outcome they recorded. They generally do not set out how an incident happened or who was responsible. In Israel, the investigation of road collisions is a matter for the police, not the ambulance service, and MDA's statement does not describe any police involvement.
Where it happened
Route 3525 is a regional road in southern Israel. MDA placed the incident close to Bror Hayil, a kibbutz, which is a collective agricultural community of a kind found across rural Israel. MDA identified the area as falling within its Lachish region, the name the service uses for one of its operational districts in the south of the country.
Regional roads of this kind connect small communities, farms and towns, and they carry a mix of local cars, agricultural vehicles and heavy trucks. Pedestrians on such roads may share space with that traffic where there are few or no dedicated walkways, though MDA's statement does not describe the road conditions at the scene.
Pedestrians and road safety in Israel
Deaths of pedestrians in road collisions are a recurring concern in Israel, and older pedestrians are among those considered most vulnerable when struck by a vehicle, particularly a heavy one such as a truck. MDA frequently reports incidents in which elderly people are hit on roads in towns and in rural areas alike.
The statement about this incident is brief and limited to the medical facts: the time of the call, the location, the type of vehicle involved, the approximate age of the victim, and the finding that she could not be saved.
What the report does not say
MDA's statement leaves many questions open. It does not name the woman or say where she lived, and it gives her age only as approximately 90. It does not say whether she was crossing the road or walking along it, or whether there was a pedestrian crossing nearby.
The statement says nothing about the truck driver: whether the driver stayed at the scene, was injured, or was questioned. It does not say who owned or operated the truck, or what it was carrying.
It does not describe the circumstances of the collision, the lighting or weather at the time, or the speed of the vehicle. It does not say whether police opened an investigation, and it does not mention any arrests.
This article is based on a single statement from MDA. No other organisation's account of the incident was available to us at the time of writing, and any further details, including the victim's identity and the findings of any investigation, would have to come from other bodies such as the police.
