Eisenkot warns rivals not to use foreign interference claims to shift Knesset oath
Party leader Gadi Eisenkot backed a thorough look at suspected foreign meddling in the election but said politicians must not use it to move the 26th Knesset's swearing-in.

Gadi Eisenkot, who chairs the party Yashar! with Eisenkot, has warned that political actors must not be allowed to exploit suspicions of foreign involvement in Israel's election in order to influence when the newly elected Knesset is sworn in. The warning came in a statement from his office, which political journalist Amit Segal published in full on his Telegram channel.
The statement paired two messages. On one side, it said Israel must guard the integrity of its elections closely against any attempt at interference, spin or bias, and that every complaint should be examined thoroughly. On the other, it said the situation must not become a tool for those seeking to influence the date on which the 26th Knesset takes its oath. Ynet carried the core of that second message as a news alert, quoting Eisenkot as saying political figures should not be given the chance to take advantage of the situation and affect the timing of the swearing-in.

What Eisenkot's office said
According to the statement, Eisenkot is in contact with what his office described as the relevant parties and is receiving updates on the suspicions of foreign involvement in the election. The statement did not name those parties, and it did not say which agency or official is handling the matter.
The most quotable line, as relayed by Ynet, was that political figures must not be allowed "to exploit the situation" to influence the timing. The statement did not name any party, politician or official as trying to do so.
How the reports describe it differently
The three reports agree that Eisenkot issued the warning, but they frame its target slightly differently. The Times of Israel summarised it as a warning against using an election interference probe to delay the swearing-in. The statement itself, as published by Amit Segal and reflected in the Ynet alert, speaks more generally of affecting the timing of the ceremony, and refers to suspicions of foreign involvement rather than explicitly to a probe. Readers should note that the word "delay" comes from the Times of Israel's framing, not from the wording of the statement as published.

The Knesset and the swearing-in
The Knesset is Israel's single-chamber parliament. After a general election, the newly elected members gather for an opening session at which they formally pledge allegiance, a step that marks the start of the new parliament's term. The body Eisenkot referred to is the 26th Knesset, meaning the one chosen in the election now under discussion.
The timing of that session matters in Israeli politics because the work of the new parliament, including the eventual approval of a government, follows from it. That helps explain why a dispute over when the ceremony happens could carry political weight, and why Eisenkot chose to address it alongside the interference question.
Who is Eisenkot
Gadi Eisenkot is a former chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces who has since entered politics. The statement identifies him as chairman of Yashar! with Eisenkot, the party that carries his name. His statement positions him as supporting a full examination of the interference suspicions while opposing any use of them to alter the parliamentary calendar.
Election integrity as a theme
The language in the statement, which calls for protecting the purity of the elections and examining every complaint in depth, reflects a principle that Israeli parties across the spectrum commonly invoke. What is specific here is the concern, voiced by Eisenkot, that suspicions of interference could be turned into a procedural lever. The reports do not indicate that any formal request to change the swearing-in date has been made.
What the reports do not say
- None of the reports describes what the suspected foreign involvement consists of, which country or actor is suspected, or how the suspicions came to light.
- The reports do not identify which body, if any, is formally investigating, despite the Times of Israel's use of the word "probe".
- The statement does not name the political actors Eisenkot believes might exploit the situation.
- No report gives a scheduled date for the swearing-in of the 26th Knesset or says whether any change to it has been proposed.
- The reports do not include any response from other parties, election officials or the government.
