Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military will act to keep Hezbollah or any other force from re-establishing itself on the Ali Taher Ridge in southern Lebanon, declaring that "anyone who approaches the ridge will be destroyed." The statement, carried by the Hebrew-language monitoring channel Abu Ali Express, described the ridge as part of what Katz called the yellow line and Israel's security zone in Lebanon, and said the Israel Defense Forces are operationally preparing to control it.

The remarks followed the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the hill itself. Ynet reported that the IDF has redeployed along the yellow line and pulled back from the underground complex that was destroyed in southern Lebanon, with forces taking up positions from which they can dominate the area by observation and by fire. According to the same report, Israeli forces are remaining inside the Beaufort compound.

מהשטח

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has made a surprise visit to Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, close to the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge that Israel recently captured and blew up. Israeli strikes in the area have killed at least 29 people in recent days.

What happened on the ridge

Times of Israel military correspondent Emanuel Fabian reported that Israeli troops left the hill in order to blow up a Hezbollah underground facility beneath it, and that the demolition took place on Thursday. In his account, the military said afterwards that it would reorganize its deployment in the area while retaining control of the ridge through surveillance and firepower. Fabian's report describes the destroyed site as Hezbollah tunnels beneath the hill; the Ynet report refers to an underground complex that was destroyed. Neither report gives dimensions, a length, or a figure for how much explosive material was used.

Who Israel Katz is

Israel Katz is Israel's defense minister, the civilian official at the head of the defense establishment and the minister to whom the IDF's chief of staff reports. Statements of this kind from the defense minister set declared policy rather than describe an operation already carried out, and the sources here present his words as a vow about future conduct on the ridge, not as an account of a strike.

The yellow line

The yellow line is the term used in Israeli reporting for the line along which Israeli forces are deployed inside southern Lebanon. Katz's statement places the Ali Taher Ridge on the Israeli side of that line and inside what he called Israel's security zone in Lebanon, which is the argument on which the declared rule about approaching the ridge rests. The reports do not set out the line's course, its length, or whether any other party recognises it.

Beaufort

Beaufort is a hilltop site in southern Lebanon, a crusader-era fortress position that commands the surrounding terrain and that has featured repeatedly in Israeli military operations in Lebanon. Ynet's report draws a distinction that matters for reading Katz's statement: the pullback applies to the demolished underground site, while Israeli forces continue to be present at Beaufort. The reports do not say how many soldiers are at either location.

Hezbollah and the wait for a response

Hezbollah is the Lebanese Shiite armed movement and political party that has fought Israel across the Lebanese border for decades. Ynet's report notes that Israel is waiting to see whether Hezbollah or Iran, Hezbollah's principal backer, responds to the demolition and the redeployment. As of the reports used here, no such response had been reported. Katz's formulation covers Hezbollah "or any other force" attempting to return to the ridge, according to the text carried by Abu Ali Express.

Where the accounts line up

All four organisations reporting this carry the same core quotation from Katz about anyone approaching the ridge being destroyed, and the same framing of the IDF preparing operationally to control it. News.co.il carried an identical partial text of the statement on its Telegram channel. The English-language and Hebrew-language versions of the quote match in substance; the wording differs only as translation would predict, with one rendering referring to the ridge and another to Ali Taher by name.

What the reports do not say

The material gives no casualty figures, on either side, from the demolition or from the withdrawal. It does not say how far the Israeli forces pulled back, what the new positions are, or how long the redeployment is expected to last. It does not specify what "approaching" the ridge means in operational terms, who would be covered by the rule, or whether it applies to Lebanese civilians, the Lebanese Armed Forces, or United Nations personnel in the area. There is no Lebanese, Hezbollah or third-party comment in any of the reports, and no independent confirmation of the state of the underground site after the demolition. The IDF's own full statement on the reorganisation is quoted only in part in the material available here.

איך בדקנו את זה

The quotation from Defense Minister Israel Katz appears in near-identical form in reports by Ynet, Abu Ali Express, News.co.il and Times of Israel correspondent Emanuel Fabian. The account of the tunnel demolition on Thursday is attributed to Fabian, and the detail about Israeli forces remaining at Beaufort comes from Ynet alone; Israel.com has not independently verified either.
