Saudi Arabia says it intercepted two missiles fired toward Riyadh
Saudi Arabia reported downing two missiles aimed at its capital, hours after alerts and an interception in the oil-producing east, though reports differ on the missile type.

Saudi Arabia said it intercepted two missiles launched toward its capital, Riyadh, according to Israeli news outlets that relayed the Saudi announcements. Ynet's alerts channel first carried a Saudi warning of danger in Riyadh, and a later Ynet update said two ballistic missiles fired at the city had been shot down.
The Riyadh episode followed alerts earlier the same day in the kingdom's east. The Times of Israel reported that Saudi civil defence had warned of possible threats in several areas, including Dhahran, and then declared the danger over. Shortly afterwards, the same outlet said the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a ballistic missile that Yemen's Houthi group had launched toward the Eastern region.

Ballistic or cruise: the reports differ
The accounts of the Riyadh interception do not match on what kind of weapon was involved or where it was aimed. Ynet described two ballistic missiles fired at Riyadh. N12, the news arm of Israel's Channel 12, quoted the Saudi-led coalition as saying it had intercepted and destroyed two cruise missiles fired toward Riyadh and the country's southern region.
The distinction matters for understanding the threat. A ballistic missile is launched on a high, arcing trajectory and descends steeply on its target, while a cruise missile flies lower and under its own power for much of its route. Both outlets agree on the number, two, and on Riyadh as a target. They differ on the missile type, and only N12 mentions the south of the kingdom. This report does not resolve which description is correct.
The earlier alerts in the east
According to The Times of Israel, the civil defence alerts covered Dhahran, Dammam, Abqaiq and the governorate of Al-Ahsa, all in the Eastern region, where much of the kingdom's oil infrastructure sits. Dhahran is the location of the headquarters of Saudi Aramco, the state oil company. The civil defence later said the danger had passed in each of those places.

Civil defence is the Saudi body responsible for public warnings and emergency response. Its alerts tell residents of a possible incoming threat, and an all clear signals that the threat is over.
Who the Houthis are
The Houthis are a Yemeni armed movement allied with Iran. A Saudi-led military coalition has been fighting in Yemen against them. The Times of Israel described the Houthis as rebels and noted that Saudi Arabia has come under consistent Houthi attack over the past month. A photograph accompanying its report showed Houthi supporters carrying weapons at a protest in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, against Saudi intervention in Yemen.

The Times of Israel explicitly attributed the missile aimed at the Eastern region to the Houthis, citing the coalition. The reports on the Riyadh interception, from Ynet and N12, do not name who launched those two missiles.
Why Israeli outlets are following it
Israeli media closely track Houthi fire across the region, and Ynet, N12 and The Times of Israel all carried the Saudi announcements in their running news feeds. The material reported here is drawn from those feeds, which relay what Saudi authorities and the coalition stated. None of the outlets reported independent confirmation of the interceptions.
What the reports do not say
- None of the reports mention casualties or damage, either from the missiles or from falling interceptor debris.
- The Riyadh reports do not identify who fired the two missiles, and no claim of responsibility has been reported.
- It remains unclear whether the missiles were ballistic, as Ynet reported, or cruise missiles, as N12 quoted the coalition as saying.
- No reported statement explains whether the Riyadh interception was linked to the earlier interception over the Eastern region.

איך בדקנו את זה
The Riyadh interception was reported by Ynet and N12, which disagree on whether the missiles were ballistic or cruise; the eastern alerts and the Houthi attribution come from The Times of Israel alone. All accounts relay Saudi or coalition statements, which we have not independently verified.
