US President Donald Trump has again asserted that Israel would not be standing today without his actions against Iran. The Times of Israel reported that Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform, that Israel and the whole of the Middle East "WOULD NOT EXIST TODAY" had he not prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The capital letters are his.

Trump added that while "nobody wants to say that," in his view "everybody knows it's true." Two Israeli Hebrew-language outlets carried the remarks within minutes of each other: N12's foreign desk described the statement as a claim made in a post, and Ynet flagged it as a breaking alert, with a fuller item on its website.

A claim Trump has made before

The Times of Israel framed the post as a repetition, writing that Trump was making the assertion "again." The reports do not say when or where he first made it, or how often. The core of the message is consistent across all three outlets: that Iran's pursuit of a nuclear weapon posed a danger to the existence of Israel and the region, and that Trump personally stopped it.

The reports do not describe what specific steps Trump was referring to when he said he stopped Iran. The post itself, as quoted, does not name any operation, agreement or date.

How the Hebrew versions differ

The three versions of the quote are close but not identical, which is common when a statement written in English is rendered quickly into Hebrew. N12's Hebrew text matches the English closely, including the phrase "in fact" and the reference to a nuclear weapon. Ynet's short alert is more compressed: it quotes Trump as saying Israel and the entire Middle East would not exist today had he not stopped Iran, without mentioning a nuclear weapon. Ynet's alert also leaves out the second sentence about nobody wanting to say it.

What Truth Social is

Truth Social is the platform Trump uses for many of his public statements, often written in a personal style with capitalised words for emphasis. Posts there are frequently picked up in real time by Israeli news outlets, which run rolling liveblogs and Telegram alert channels. Both Ynet and N12 published the item through their Telegram news feeds, a common way Israeli media push urgent headlines to readers.

The day's other news

The post came on a busy day for US and Israeli politics, according to the same Times of Israel liveblog. The paper reported that, days after what it described as a midterm rout, Trump moved Stephen Miller up from the deputy role to take over from Susie Wiles as his chief of staff.

The liveblog also carried a report that the prime minister and the head of the Mossad, Israel's foreign intelligence agency, had prepared an operation on Iranian soil just before an Israeli election, and that it was foiled after the United States inadvertently gave a warning. The Times of Israel presented this as a report, and the details of who was warned and how were not included in the material available here. Separately, the paper said the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) had invoked a closed military zone order to keep a former prime minister out of a location where settlers had targeted Palestinians.

None of the three outlets drew a direct link between Trump's Iran post and the report about a thwarted Israeli operation, and this article does not suggest one.

Why the claim resonates in Israel

Iran's nuclear programme has long been treated by Israeli governments as a central strategic threat, and the question of who deserves credit for containing it recurs in Israeli and American political debate. Trump's post places that credit with himself. The reports carry no response from the Israeli government, from Iran or from any other party.

What the reports do not say

  • None of the reports says what action Trump was referring to, or offers evidence for the claim beyond the post itself.
  • No reaction from the Israeli prime minister's office, the Iranian government or US officials has been reported.
  • The reports do not explain what prompted Trump to post the statement when he did.
