Beer Sheva's ice-cream parlour since 1950, founded by Julia Rotenberg in an old house in the heart of the city and still making its ice cream by hand in the Old City.

Glida Be'er Sheva began in 1950, when Julia Rotenberg, newly arrived from Europe in her forties, bought a large Arab house in the heart of the city and set up a small ice-cream factory, a parlour and her family's home in it. Its site tells how the parlour became a local institution where the town's parliament of regulars met, and names David Ben-Gurion as its most famous customer. Julia Rotenberg came to the parlour until her last day, in 2005 at the age of 93, and her grandson Oded now runs it with his partner Sharon. The ice cream is still made by hand in the boutique factory at the Old City branch, the cream flavours from milk the shop pasteurises itself and the sorbets from Israeli fruit, with more than 60 changing flavours on offer. Its packaging, bags and napkins are fully biodegradable, by its own account.
