The entrance to Kibbutz Alumim, Alumim

A coffee cart and boutique bakery under the trees at the entrance to Kibbutz Alumim, open on Thursday and Friday mornings, with pastries and desserts baked on the spot

MorCafe is a coffee cart and boutique bakery at the entrance to Kibbutz Alumim, run by Mor, a trained pastry chef, and Alon, parents of four, who opened it when most of the kibbutz's families came home after their long evacuation during the Swords of Iron war. Its tarts, cream puffs, éclairs, croissants and carrot cake are baked in its own kitchen every morning, beside sandwiches on croissant dough, challah and pretzel buns, focaccias, bruschettas, seasonal salads and coffee, and two of its cakes are gluten-free. The cart stands on a recently renovated avenue among trees and lawns, with shaded seating corners, picnic tables and a covered, air-conditioned structure beside it. Mor's catering business, Cakes and Mor, makes savoury and sweet trays for events and is the caterer of the kibbutz's rural guest house.
