Each column is one year of cases, counted by the year the case was opened, the two digits after the slash in its number. A case can take years to reach its ruling, so the newest columns can still grow.

Almost four in ten full rulings answer a petition to the High Court of Justice.

The letters before a case number say what kind of case it is: HCJ 4267/16 is case 4267 of the High Court of Justice, opened in 2016.

People ask these questions about Israeli court rulings.

Is it legal to copy and publish an Israeli court ruling?+

Yes. Section 6 of the Copyright Act 2007 says there is no copyright in the judicial decisions of a court, as in laws and regulations. A summary that someone writes about a ruling can be theirs, so the summaries here are our own.

How do I find a Supreme Court ruling by its case number?+

Type the number in the search at the top of this page, with its letters or without, for example בג"ץ 4267/16 or 4267/16. The two digits after the slash are the year the case was opened. The court's own site finds every case by its number.

What is the difference between a ruling and a decision?+

A ruling (פסק דין) ends the case. A decision (החלטה) settles a step along the way, such as a delay or an interim order. Of the 751,194 documents the court published from 1995 to September 2022, 60,809 were full rulings.

How do you cite an Israeli Supreme Court ruling?+

With the letters and number of the case, the parties and the date, for example: HCJ 4267/16 Bizchut, Israel Human Rights Center for People with Disabilities v. Ministry of Transport (January 29, 2019). Each ruling here has its citation ready to copy.

Why are some rulings published with initials instead of names?+

The Courts Law closes some hearings, such as family cases and cases about minors, and forbids publishing anything that would identify the people in them. Those rulings are published with initials.

See section 6 of the Copyright Act. Every case can be found by its number on the Supreme Court's site.
