These common cases show what ₪10,000 from January of past years is worth now.
| Starting month | Linked amount | Change |
|---|---|---|
| January 2020 | ₪11,965 | +19.6% |
| January 2015 | ₪12,096 | +21.0% |

Each case uses the index for the month, from January of the year to September 2026.
The amount is multiplied by the end index and divided by the start index.
- Find the index for the start month and the index for the end month.
- Divide the end index by the start index. The result is how much prices changed between the two months.
- Multiply the amount by that result and round to the agora.Linked amount = Amount × End index ÷ Start index
- Every base period starts again at 100, so when the two months are on different base periods the result of the division is also multiplied by the linking factors that the bureau publishes between the two. The calculator does this for you.
For example, ₪10,000 from January 2020 to September 2026: the index was 100.4 then and 105.3 now, and the linking factors between the two base periods multiply to 1.140778, so the amount becomes ₪11,964.54.
₪10,000 × 105.3 ÷ 100.4 × 1.140778 = ₪11,964.54A contract names either the index for the month or the known index on a date.
- The index for the month (מדד בגין) is the index of the month itself. Pick a month and the calculator uses that month's index.
- The known index (מדד ידוע) is the last index published before a date. The index for a month is published on the 15th of the next month, so it counts as known from the 16th.
- For example, on 15 October 2026 the known index is the one for August 2026, and from 16 October 2026 it is the one for September 2026.
The bureau publishes on the 15th at 18:30, and earlier when the 15th falls on a Friday, a Saturday or a holiday. The bureau's own calculator counts an index as known from the 16th in every case, and so does this one.

People ask these questions about CPI linkage.
What was the latest CPI?+
The CPI for September 2026 fell 0.5%, and prices are 1.6% higher than a year earlier. The index stands at 105.3 points (average 2024 = 100). The Central Bureau of Statistics published it on 15 October 2026, and publishes the next one on 15 November 2026.
How do I link an amount to the CPI?+
Divide the index of the end month by the index of the start month and multiply the amount by the result. ₪10,000 from January 2020 to September 2026 becomes ₪11,964.54, a change of 19.6%.
What is the known index?+
The known index is the last index published before a date. Contracts for rent, loans and maintenance often link a payment to the index known on the day it is due. The index for a month comes out on the 15th of the next month, so on the 15th of October 2026 the known index is the one for August 2026, and on the 16th it is the one for September 2026.
What is the difference between the known index and the index for the month?+
The index for the month is the index of the month the payment belongs to, which is published only after the month ends. The known index is the one already out on the payment date, so it is older by one or two months. Over the same dates the two give slightly different amounts, which is why the contract has to say which one it means.
When is the CPI published?+
The Central Bureau of Statistics publishes the index for a month on the 15th of the next month at 18:30. When the 15th falls on a Friday, a Saturday or a holiday it comes out earlier. The index for September 2026 was published on 15 October 2026.
Why does the index have a base period?+
The bureau starts a new base period every two years or so, and sets the average of that year to 100. A month stays in the base period it was published in, and the bureau publishes a linking factor for each pair of neighbouring base periods, such as 1.074 between the base of 2022 and the base of 2024. The calculator multiplies these factors, so an amount can be linked across any number of base periods.
The index is the general Consumer Price Index of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
