Seahorse Winery planted an organic vineyard in Moshav Bar Giora in 2000, densely, at 550 vines a dunam, so that low yields and small grapes give concentrated fruit, and it has farmed it organically since. The varieties are Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Zinfandel, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, and the wines usually carry the names of artists who are no longer alive: Lennon, Hemingway, Fellini, Antoine (de Saint-Exupéry) and others. The winery likens itself to independent film-making, with one person holding many roles and the winemaker intervening as little as possible, and it calls itself a studio for wine rather than a visitor centre. On Saturdays the Dunie family and the winery's team host tastings of about five wines, including a barrel tasting, with pretzels and an explanation of the wines, at 12:00, 13:00 or 14:00, for 80 shekels a person, which is credited against three bottles each.
