The Bar-David Museum opened at Kibbutz Bar'am at Hanukkah 1982, in a converted children's house, after the Haifa collector Moshe Bar-David, following the death of his wife Tova, decided to give his collection to the kibbutz; it is named for the couple. Its collection spans Israeli art from the early days of the Bezalel academy to today and a rare group of German Expressionist works, with artists such as Marc Chagall, Max Liebermann, Hermann Struck, Jakob Steinhardt and Marcel Janco. Of its three permanent displays, "Tradition and Continuity" sets rare Judaica beside Israeli art and includes eight Baroque paintings on glass of the story of Joseph's sale, attributed to the school of Luca Giordano; a sculpture garden holds works by Yigal Tumarkin, and a small archaeology display fills the upper floor. It also runs changing exhibitions, a space for artists of the north and an art centre for children and youth with yearly themed exhibitions in Hebrew and Arabic.
