Beit El, Beit El

The Manne family's estate winery in Beit El, with vineyards on ancient terraces at 850 to 910 metres and visits by appointment

Beit El Winery is the Manne family's winery: Hillel Manne, who studied agriculture, is the winemaker, Nina Manne studied business administration, their son Yisrael runs the vineyards and the winery, and Shalom-David grows its Cabernet Franc. Its site says its vineyards, in Beit El and also in Amona, Elon Moreh and Kfar Tapuach, are planted at 850 to 910 metres on terra rossa soil among fig, pomegranate and olive trees, on terraces with wine presses cut into the rock in ancient times, five minutes from the place where Jacob dreamt his dream. It grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Marselan, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carignan, keeps the yield to two to three and a half bottles a vine, and ages its wines for twenty months in new French oak; its series include Revelation, Tal Binyamin and Jacob's Dream. Visits are by appointment, and Beit El local council's tourism page names the winery among the stops of a visit to the town and says its Merlot won international recognition.
