Moshav Hemed, Hemed

The Hemed branch of Benno, a kosher dairy Italian kitchen in a eucalyptus grove in the heart of the moshav, with pizzas and pastas from the taboon.

Benno Hemed stands in a shaded eucalyptus grove in the heart of Hemed, a moshav of about 1,480 people near Or Yehuda that some 120 religious discharged soldiers founded in 1950; its name is the Hebrew acronym for "religious discharged soldiers". Its site describes an Italian kitchen in the open air and the quiet of the moshav, with salads and pizzas straight from the taboon, for family meals, meetings with friends or a break in the day. The first Benno is at the entrance to Moshav Beit Nehemya near Shoham, around a stone oven brought from Naples, and the site gives chef Meir Karnash's training at Le Cordon Bleu in Australia. Its kitchen is kosher, dairy and vegetarian; the Sdot Dan religious council lists Benno Hemed, run by Benno Culinary Ltd, as an Italian coffee cart under its supervision. It opens every day from 08:00 to 22:00 and on Friday until 15:00, and its site's breakfast menu is served until 12:00.
