A coffee cart in a small eucalyptus grove in Hofit, close to the beach and Road 2, with hammocks, a lawn and a shelf of books to swap

Shulke is the coffee cart that Melody, who lives in Hofit, opened in a small eucalyptus grove close to the sea, to Road 2 and to a centre for lectures and classes. She has worked in restaurants since she was 13, studied pastry-making and business administration, and left high tech for coffee carts during the pandemic; her husband Benaya built most of the cart. It is named after his late grandmother Shulamit, known as Shulke, one of the founders of Kibbutz Ginosar, whose home was always open to guests. The light menu has sandwiches, salads, savoury pastries, cookies and pralines, açaí and cocoa-peanut bowls except on Fridays, and a carrot cake, a lemon cake and macarons among its gluten-free sweets. Its listing says mothers on maternity leave and people on their way to or from the beach stop there, among hammocks, a lawn and a shelf of books to swap.
