Kibbutz Hulda, Hulda

The visitors' centre of Barkan Winery at Kibbutz Hulda, built in 2000 among the winery's vineyards, with guided tours of its barrel hall and wine tastings

Barkan Winery built its visitors' centre at Kibbutz Hulda in 2000, beside the new winery it opened there that year; its site says Barkan, founded at the end of the 19th century, is the largest winery in Israel, and that about 2,000 dunams of vineyards surround the centre. The tour lasts about an hour and a quarter: a film on a 180-degree screen in the auditorium, the barrel hall with more than 6,000 oak barrels, a lookout over the vineyards, and a guided tasting of four of the winery's wines. There is also a guided tasting of five wines, a private tour for couples from Sunday to Thursday with wines, cheeses, breads and dips, and tours for groups; cheese platters and snacks can be ordered and the winery's wines bought on site. The winery's chief winemaker, Ido Levinson, became a Master of Wine in 2020. The centre also hosts private and business events in six spaces, from a meeting room for 30 to a hall and an open-air palm plaza for 250, with kosher dairy or meat menus.
