The old moshava of Sejera, Ilaniya, Ilaniya

Five guest houses around a farmer's house built in 1923 in the old moshava of Sejera, today's Ilaniya, with a walled farmyard, a vineyard and a vegetable garden

Hemdatya has five guest houses around a farmer's house in the old moshava of Sejera, in Ilaniya. Its site says the farmer's house was built in 1923 as part of the moshava of Sejera, which was founded to house pioneer families who answered the Jewish Colonization Association's call to come up to the Galilee and farm it, and that a family of nine lived in it. The house has kept its original walls and its layers of plaster and paint, and today it is where guests are received, with an open kitchen, refreshments and a dining corner; it is open to guests through the day, dairy meals are served in it, and honey, olive oil, wine, local sheep and goat cheeses and handmade souvenirs by local artists are sold there. The garden covers about four dunams: a vineyard in the front yard, from which the hosts make grape juice and wine, vegetable beds that guests may pick from, a central yard inside a wall about a hundred years old with fruit trees and a plunge pool that is cooled in summer and heated in winter, and a back yard with an outdoor kitchen, a campfire circle and a wide tent with a wood stove. Each guest house has an equipped kitchen and a smart TV; three have a giant bath built around the stone found on the spot during the restoration, and the fifth, built of black basalt, has an antique bath on its veranda and a private wooden plunge pool. The house's therapists give massages in the room or in the garden, and vegetarian meals for groups of eight or more, cooking workshops and group activities are arranged ahead.

Rooms

  • The first guest house

    1 room · Sleeps up to 2

A roomy suite for a couple in the front yard, behind an old pale-blue door: a large double bed, a loveseat, an equipped kitchen with a fridge, an electric hob, an oven and a coffee machine, a smart TV and a Bluetooth speaker, a shower and toilet, and a giant bath built on the spot around the stone found during the restoration. Its veranda, wrapped in climbers, faces the house's vegetable garden and has a fish pond and a double hammock.

  • The second guest house

    1 room · Sleeps up to 2

A very roomy suite for a couple with a large double bed, a loveseat and a wood fireplace built of mud and earth that opens into the room, an equipped kitchen, a smart TV and a Bluetooth speaker, a shower and toilet and a giant bath built on the spot around the old stone. A grape arbour covers its veranda, which has a seating corner, an ornamental pond and a double hammock.

  • The third guest house, the gallery suite

    1 room

An L-shaped suite of three spaces at the south-eastern end of the walled farmyard: a central room with a wood stove cut from heavy sheet metal, a dining corner and an equipped kitchen, a double bedroom with a painted tile floor, and, two stone steps down, a snug room with a sofa that opens into a double bed, a reading and games corner, a smart TV and a narrow ladder up to a gallery with mattresses. The bathroom has a giant bath built around the old stone.

  • The fourth guest house

    1 room

A wide suite of two spaces floored in reclaimed aged parquet, entered across a large open veranda with a table made from old cart wheels and a patio heater: a bedroom, a bright bathroom with a large bath of white cement trimmed with local stone, and a central room with a dining corner, an equipped kitchen, a wood stove that can also be cooked on and a large sofa that opens into a double bed.

  • The fifth guest house

    1 room · Sleeps up to 2

A secluded suite of black basalt in a green corner of vines and fruit trees: an equipped kitchen, a smart TV, a shower and toilet, an antique bath on the outer veranda ringed by curtains and plants, a private wooden plunge pool beside the suite that is heated in winter, and an outdoor kitchen with a campfire circle. Its site says it suits couples looking for quiet.
