Kadita, Upper Galilee, Kadita

Five wooden cabins on a small organic farm on an Upper Galilee slope at Kadita, built by hand by a family that came up from Sinai in 1982

Cabin at Kadita is a small farm in the Upper Galilee where traditional Mediterranean farming, self-building, art and craft go together with guests in wooden cabins. Its owners left their home near Sharm el-Sheikh in 1982, before Israel returned Sinai to Egypt, settled on a bare, rocky southern slope with two old olive trees, lived in a tent for 18 months while they built their stone house, and in 1990 built the first cabin. Today there are five, each set apart, built from recycled materials and vintage pieces and facing the Upper Galilee view, with a small stone pool to dip in during summer, a shared deck for the sunset and wood stoves lit for the cool evenings at 800 metres. The farm grows olives, vines, figs, pomegranates, vegetables and herbs by hand and organically, and guests can buy its own olive oil, olives, honey, wine, jams and dried fruit, or join one of the seasonal farm jobs. The farm keeps animals of its own and does not take guests' pets.
