Sindyanna of Galilee is a fair-trade association that has worked as a social business since 1996; its site says Arab and Jewish women produce its award-winning olive oil together, that tens of thousands of litres leave its plant in Kafr Kanna every year, and that the profits go to social projects. Its visitors' centre beside the plant, furnished with recycled wood from nearby factories, takes groups of up to 50 and families by arrangement, for a film about its work, olive oil tastings, meetings with the basket weavers of Cana and the villages around it, basketry and cooking workshops with local chefs, baking hot pitas, and lunches of traditional food or falafel and shawarma ordered ahead. Its fair trade shop sells its organic and other olive oils, za'atar, honey, almonds, carob syrup and olive oil soaps, with tahini, halva, spices, wine, arak and chocolate from local producers, and palm-frond baskets and embroidery. It has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2003.
