A family boutique winery on a hill in western Kafr Yasif, founded in 2010, with guided tastings by appointment from Wednesday to Saturday

Ashkar Winery is a boutique winery on a hill in Kafr Yasif, founded in 2010 by Nemi Ashkar, who had a long career in high tech before it. Its site says the Ashkar family comes from Iqrit, a village in the Upper Galilee where it made wine for generations, and a painting of Iqrit appears on every label. The wines are single varietals and blends from vineyards around Iqrit, at Kfar Shamai and at Tuval, among them Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and a rosé. The winery is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, by appointment: a one-hour tasting of five wines with a guided tour, held in the cellar or at a bar overlooking old olive groves, with labaneh, za'atar, the family's olive oil, olives, cheeses and homemade bread. Its press page links coverage in Haaretz and The Guardian.
