Kfar Chabad's hand-made shmura matza bakery, where visitors can watch the matzas rolled and baked by hand.
Matzot Kfar Chabad is the village's hand-made shmura matza bakery, at 3 HaRav Shneur Zalman Gorelik Street. Its site says it is the largest hand-made shmura matza bakery in the world, that it opened for the village's first Passover, in 1950, on the ruins of an abandoned house of the former village of Safriyya, and that from the moment the flour meets the water to the open fire of the oven every batch takes no more than eighteen minutes, all of it by hand with no machines. The baking season runs up to the eve of Passover, and the matzas, thin or regular, white or whole-wheat and sold by the kilo, go to Chabad emissaries, families and communities in Israel and abroad. Visitors can watch from the gallery from Sunday to Thursday without booking and at no charge, and paid guided tours for families and groups, run by an outside operator, can be combined with a visit to Beit 770, the village's etrog orchard and a scribe's workshop.
