Farm 45, Kfar Uria, Kfar Uria

A family winery in Kfar Uria that ferments all its wines in large clay jars brought from Georgia, open every day of the week by booking

Kadma Winery was founded in 2010 by the Slutzkin family on their farm in Kfar Uria, and it is run by Lina, the founder and winemaker, who left high-tech to start it. Every wine ferments and soaks in clay jars made by hand in Georgia and lined with beeswax, a method the winery revived after research with Prof. Amos Hadas and with the advice of the winemaker Dr Arkadi Papikian, and then ages in French oak. Its vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Shiraz grows at 200 metres on the south bank of Nahal Harel, along the old road to Jerusalem, where ancient wine presses lie along the spur. A 30 to 40 minute tour with a short film shows the jars and the cellar, and tastings run from four young wines for 59 shekels to six of its top wines for 120; tables on the terrace serve cheese platters and snacks with the wine for two hours, and picnic packs can be collected to take to the parks around. The visitor centre holds up to 150 people for groups and events.
