Kishor Winery, Kibbutz Kishor, Beit HaKerem Valley, Kishor

The winery of Kishorit, a village for people with special needs beside Kibbutz Kishor, with a visitor centre that looks over vineyards and the wooded hills of the western Galilee

Kishor Winery was founded in 2010 in Kishorit, a village for people with special needs set in natural woodland in the western Galilee. Its first vines were planted in the summer of 2007 as a new working branch of the village, which is home for life to about 190 adults with special needs; the vineyard and the winery are two of the branches its members work in, and they share in tending the vines and making the wine. Today 13 red and white grape varieties grow on 170 dunams, 500 metres above sea level and facing the Mediterranean. The first harvest gave about 9,000 bottles, and the winery hopes to reach about 100,000 a year when all its vineyards mature. Its visitor centre opened in 2014, looking over vineyards and green hills, with guided tastings of its wines beside a Galilean menu. Richard Davis, who founded the winery, is its chief winemaker and grower, and Menachem Roitblat is its winemaker.
