A Bedouin hospitality centre in a family house about 200 years old, built of mud, stones and straw in the heart of Lakiya, serving breakfast and rice dishes such as maqluba

Huriah Palace is a centre for Bedouin hospitality in the old house of the Abu Qarn family in the heart of Lakiya, a building about 200 years old made the traditional way from mud, stones and straw. The Lakiya local council's page says the house was abandoned in 1990 and reopened in 2008, that Amal Abu Qarn, a daughter of the family, set up and runs the visitors' centre, and that she named it after her grandmother. Guests are received with sweet tea and bitter coffee while the women of the family tell the story of the family and of Lakiya, of the Bedouin wedding and of what dress and jewellery mean in a Bedouin woman's world. Its site lists a breakfast of pita with za'atar, pita from the taboon, labneh, homemade hummus and home-made olives, and a lunch or dinner of fresh salads with a choice of maqluba, ouzi or kabsa, ending with ma'amoul and basbousa; it also runs a henna workshop, and the council's page adds jewellery and Bedouin cooking workshops and hiring the place for events. The site gives opening hours of 10:00 to 18:00 every day of the week.
