Mikhmanim, Mikhmanim

An ecological khan on the top of Mount Kamon at Mikhmanim: a garden that recreates a farming village of Bible times, with lodging for families and groups, camping and workshops

Derech HaTanach El HaTeva ("through the Bible to nature") is an ecological garden on the top of Mount Kamon at Mikhmanim, facing the Beit HaKerem Valley and the Upper Galilee hills, that recreates a farming village of Bible times. It is the joint work of Roni, a tour guide, and her partner Rocky, a farmer and beekeeper, who came here 40 years ago, cleared the stones, planted an orchard, vine arbours and flowers, built the stone khan, the tent and the huts, and rebuilt the old farm installations: an olive press, a threshing floor and a winepress. It hosts school classes, adult groups and families, some of them for a bar or bat mitzvah, in six lodging compounds, three small ones for a family or a small group and three for groups of 10 to 60 sleeping together, and there is camping in private tents. Guests share an equipped kitchen, a children's area with a tree house, a library of games, hammocks and swings, seating corners facing the Galilee view, an orchard and a herb garden. The khan uses no disposable plastic and keeps the place quiet, free of loud music; in summer the evenings are cool, and in winter guests sit by the lit hearth.
