Shtarkman Erna is a family boutique hotel on Jabotinsky Street in Nahariya, five minutes' walk from the beach, run by the daughters of the Shtarkman family in the hospitality tradition of the German Jews, the Yekkes. Its story begins with two family houses built near the sea at the end of the 1950s, which Erna began to run in the early 1960s as Pension Erna for summer guests, known for its welcome and its cakes; some are still baked at the hotel, the best known an apple strudel. Every booking includes a breakfast buffet, kosher under the Nahariya rabbinate, and on Friday afternoons the lobby, with its century-old piano and the family's library, serves Kaffee mit Kuchen with apple strudel and whipped cream. The garden has an open-air jacuzzi, a dry sauna and a treatment room, and the hotel hosts boutique events of up to about 60 guests.
