Al Hakim Hotel is run by the Hakim family in the heart of Nazareth's old market. Its site tells how Tawfiq Hakim opened a carpenters' tool shop in the market in the early 1930s, built it into a carpentry and, in the late 1960s, bought the building that became one of Nazareth's first furniture shops. In 2015 his son Rayek, with his wife Abir and their son Bassam, opened the hotel there after two years of renovation that kept the old premises, with ten rooms that range from an old stone house and a 19th-century family home to modern rooms. Beside the rooms the family runs cooking workshops and walking tours of Nazareth led by Bassam Hakim, and a small family museum is being built.
