The family winery of Moshav Kadesh Barnea (Nitzanei Sinai) near the Egyptian border, with a tasting room for visitors who book ahead.
Nira and Alon Zadok, among the founders of Moshav Kadesh Barnea, planted their first 10 dunams of Cabernet Sauvignon beside the moshav in 1997 and made their first desert wine, 3,000 bottles, in 2000; the winery was first called Kadesh Barnea Winery and later renamed Ramat Negev Winery. The parents run the winery and its visitors' centre, their son Yogev, who studied wine technology at the University of Florence, is chief winemaker, and his brother Gilad runs sales. The vineyard has grown to 150 dunams of Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah, Chenin Blanc and Petit Verdot, grown without pesticide sprays on desalinated well water, and the wines come in the Kadesh Barnea, Neve Midbar, Ramon and Exodus series; its home page puts output at about 350,000 bottles a year and its story page at about 500,000. A visit is a tasting of white, rosé and red with the story of the Nitzana settlements and of the winery, for up to 30 people, booked and paid ahead, and the winery is closed on Shabbat and holidays.
