Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, Yad Mordechai

Kibbutz Yad Mordechai's visitors' centre on bees and honey, where a beekeeper opens a working hive behind glass; open to the public on Saturdays, in school holidays and on festivals by registration, and to groups all year.

The Honey and Bee House is the visitors' centre of Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, the home of the Yad Mordechai apiary, and is run by Yad Mordechai Tourism, the kibbutz's tourism office. On the 45-minute visit a beekeeper in a bee suit meets the visitors, opens a working hive in front of them behind a sealed glass window and explains how the bees live and work. The kibbutz's own site adds a film, role-play games, candle making from natural wax and tastings of honey from a fresh comb and of different kinds of honey, and says a boutique shop at the entrance sells Yad Mordechai honey. For the general public it opens every Saturday, in school holidays and on festivals, by registration in advance, on a visit that joins the bee house with a ride around the kibbutz in a large club car and the "Kibbutz of Old" collection house. Groups of 30 to 50 are received all year, in Hebrew or English, and can add lunch in the kibbutz's kosher dining room, the story of how the kibbutz was defended on 7 October 2023 and visits to members' homes.
