12 Ma'adim Street, Yeruham

A Negev winery founded by the Pinto family in Yeruham, with a vineyard on the bed of Nahal Shualim and a new visitor centre for tours and tastings.

Pinto Winery was founded by the Pinto family, who by their own account spent years supporting Israel's periphery, mostly in education and tourism, and set out to show that desert farming in the Negev can yield the very best products. With local growers the family planted a large vineyard next to Yeruham, on the bed of Nahal Shualim, in Mediterranean varieties suited to the desert, and brought in Ya'acov Oryah as chief winemaker. The wines come in a varietal series with a rosé, whose labels show the common Arabian fox of the wadi, and in Holot, a series of regional blends. Its new visitor centre is open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Friday until 15:00, with guided tours at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00 that end in a tasting of four wines with cheeses, spreads, bread and olive oil from its vineyards. Its website's contact address is 108 Zvi Bornstein Street, which is also the Desert Iris Hotel's, while the company that owns the winery is registered at 12 Ma'adim Street.
