Galil Mountain Winery

יקב הרי גליל

Winery · Golan Heights religious council

Kibbutz Yir'on, D.N. Merom HaGalil, Yir'on

A winery beside Kibbutz Yir'on in the Upper Galilee, about 700 metres from the Lebanese border, whose visitor centre gives tours and tastings among the vineyards.

Galil Mountain Winery was founded in 2000 beside Kibbutz Yir'on, and its site says it was the first sustainable winery in Israel: some of its vineyards, planted at 420 to 800 metres across the Upper Galilee, are farmed to the LODI RULES standard for sustainable farming, and the roof of the winery carries solar panels. Its wines come in the Bar, Stav, Galil and Aviv series, single-vineyard and special wines, and a Yir'on series. The visitor centre, in a building with the vineyards and hills in view on every side, offers an hour-long tour through the fermentation halls and the oak-barrel cellar, a panoramic lookout and a tasting of three wines, for groups of up to 90, and a shop of wines and gift packs; it also hosts workshops, meetings and company days, on a balcony over the Galilee and in the shade of an old oak tree among kiwi orchards at the entrance. The winery kept working through the war in the north, and the visitor centre reopened in February 2025 after more than a year closed.
