Israeli forces have detained four members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad who, according to the military, were preparing to carry out an attack in the northern West Bank. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said soldiers made the arrests during two separate operations this week in the villages of Qabatiya and Arraba, acting on intelligence from the Israel Security Agency, the domestic security service better known as the Shin Bet. The army credited the operation to its Menashe Brigade.
In a further operation this week, troops in the Beit Rima area detained a wanted man the IDF describes as involved in trafficking weapons. The Times of Israel reported, citing the army, that the suspects were transferred to the Shin Bet for interrogation. Hebrew-language outlets including Ynet, N12 and News.co.il carried the same account, attributing it to the military.
What the sources posted
⭕️APPREHENDED: 4 Islamic Jihad terrorists who were planning to carry out a terror attack in northern Samaria, in the villages of Qabatiya & Arraba in Judea & Samaria. Additionally, in the Beit Rima area, a wanted individual involved in arms trafficking was also apprehended.
Who Palestinian Islamic Jihad is
Palestinian Islamic Jihad is an armed Palestinian faction that rejects Israel's existence and is backed by Iran. It operates in Gaza and the West Bank and is designated a terrorist organisation by Israel, the United States and the European Union. It is separate from Hamas, though the two groups have often cooperated. In the northern West Bank, its local networks have long been among the most active armed groups, which is why arrests attributed to it in this area are a recurring feature of Israeli military announcements.
Where the arrests took place
The IDF uses the term "northern Samaria" for the area. Samaria is the biblical name that Israel's government and military use for the northern part of the West Bank; together with Judea in the south, "Judea and Samaria" is the official Israeli designation for the territory. International news organisations generally call the same area the northern West Bank, and Times of Israel military correspondent Emanuel Fabian used that phrasing in his report.
Qabatiya and Arraba are Palestinian towns in the Jenin area, in the far north of the West Bank. The Menashe Brigade is the IDF regional brigade responsible for security in that sector. Beit Rima, where the separate arms arrest took place, is a Palestinian village further south, in the area northwest of Ramallah. The reports do not say the Beit Rima case is connected to the Qabatiya and Arraba arrests, and the army presented it as a distinct operation.
How these operations work
Arrest raids of this kind are carried out routinely by Israeli troops across the West Bank, frequently overnight. The Shin Bet typically supplies the intelligence, soldiers make the arrests, and detainees are then handed to the agency for questioning. The military usually announces the results in brief statements, as it did here, sometimes accompanied by video. N12 reported that footage of the arrest had been released alongside the army's statement.
Differences between the reports
The accounts agree on the core facts: four suspects, two locations, Islamic Jihad affiliation, Shin Bet intelligence, and a separate arms trafficking arrest at Beit Rima. They differ in wording and in one detail. The IDF and the Hebrew outlets describe the four as terrorists and state flatly that an attack was being planned. The Times of Israel calls them operatives and describes the plot as alleged. News.co.il said the detainees were passed to the security forces for questioning, without naming the Shin Bet, while the Times of Israel specified the Shin Bet. Ynet's alert headline described the operation as a foiled attack, echoing the military's framing.
All of the reports trace back to a single source, the Israeli military. None of the outlets cited independent confirmation of the plot.
What the reports do not say
The material leaves several questions open:
- The suspects have not been named, and no ages or hometowns beyond the two villages were given.
- No details were released about the alleged attack: its intended target, its timing, or how far planning had progressed.
- The army did not say whether weapons or explosives were found during the Qabatiya and Arraba operations.
- The exact days of the arrests were not given, only that they took place this week.
- The identity of the Beit Rima suspect and the kind of weapons he is accused of trading were not disclosed.
- No response from Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the detainees' families or Palestinian officials appears in the reports.
- There is no information yet on whether charges will be filed or whether the detainees will be held without charge.

How we checked this
The arrests were reported by the IDF on Telegram and X, The Times of Israel, Ynet, N12 and News.co.il, but every account relies on the Israeli military's statement. The claim that an attack was being planned is the army's and has not been independently verified.
