The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency (ISA) say they struck targets in several parts of the Gaza Strip over a period of 24 hours, destroying what they described as military infrastructure belonging to Hamas. In a joint announcement published by the IDF spokesperson, the two bodies listed an observation command center, a rocket launch site and weapons storage facilities among the targets.

According to a summary the IDF posted on X, the observation command center was in the Daraj Tuffah area and, the military said, had been used by Hamas members to act against Israeli troops deployed nearby. The same post said a rocket launch site was hit in the Al-Furqan area, along with 3 weapons storage facilities in several locations. The IDF said those facilities held rockets, explosive devices, mortars, Kalashnikov rifles and other combat equipment.

Who carried out the strikes

The IDF is Israel's military, covering ground, air and naval forces. The ISA, often referred to in Israel by its Hebrew acronym Shabak and widely known abroad as the Shin Bet, is Israel's domestic security and counterintelligence service. Its role in Gaza operations is generally associated with gathering intelligence used to identify targets, while the military carries out the strikes themselves. Joint announcements naming both bodies are a common format for the IDF spokesperson when an operation has relied on ISA intelligence.

The announcement on the IDF spokesperson's official Telegram channel was framed as a joint statement from both organisations. The version posted on the military's X account was labelled as a recap of the previous 24 hours and named only the IDF as having carried out the strikes.

The places named

The Gaza Strip is a narrow coastal territory bordering Israel and Egypt, governed for years by Hamas, the Islamist movement that Israel, the United States and the European Union designate as a terrorist organisation. Daraj and Tuffah are neighbourhoods in the eastern part of Gaza City, in the north of the Strip, and the IDF statements treat them as a single area. The reports do not say where Al-Furqan lies, nor where the weapons storage facilities were located beyond describing them as being in several areas of Gaza.

How this fits the pattern of IDF statements

The IDF regularly publishes summaries of this kind, listing categories of targets struck over a set period and the types of weapons it says were found or destroyed. Such statements typically give general locations and target descriptions rather than detailed operational information. The reference in the X post to Israeli troops operating near the Daraj Tuffah site indicates that IDF ground forces were present in that area at the time, though the statements do not describe their mission.

Both reports used here come from the Israeli military itself, one via its Telegram channel and one via its X account. They do not represent independent confirmation from separate organisations. No account from Hamas, Palestinian authorities in Gaza or independent observers was included in the material available to us.

What the reports do not say

The IDF statements do not say whether anyone was killed or injured in the strikes, whether any Hamas members were present at the sites when they were hit, or whether there was any damage to surrounding buildings. They do not give the exact dates or times of the individual strikes within the 24-hour window, the method used to destroy each site, or the quantities of weapons the military says were stored in the facilities.

The reports also do not explain what specific activities the observation command center was used for, beyond the general claim that it served operations against IDF troops, and they do not say what prompted the strikes at this time. None of these claims have been independently verified.
