A 49-year-old man was moderately wounded in a stabbing inside a barbershop on Jerusalem Street in Afula, a city in northern Israel, according to the Israeli broadcaster N12. N12 reported that emergency medics treated the man at the scene and took him to HaEmek Medical Center with penetrating wounds, and that the incident appears to have a criminal background.

Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, gave a similar account of the casualty. According to the Magen David Adom spokesperson's office, a call came in to the service's 101 emergency dispatch centre in its Gilboa region at 20:44 reporting a man hurt on Jerusalem Street in Afula. Its emergency medical technicians and paramedics treated a 49-year-old man in moderate condition with penetrating injuries and evacuated him to HaEmek hospital.

What the two reports agree on

Both organisations give the same core facts: the man's age, his moderate condition, the nature of his wounds, the street where it happened and the hospital he was taken to. Both also say that it was Magen David Adom crews who provided the treatment and transport.

The reports differ in what they add. N12 describes the event as a stabbing and places it inside a barbershop. The Magen David Adom statement does not use the word stabbing and does not mention a barbershop; it refers only to a man injured on the street and to penetrating injuries, a medical term covering wounds in which an object breaks the skin and enters the body. N12's suggestion that the motive is criminal is the broadcaster's own assessment, described as probable, and is not echoed in the Magen David Adom statement.

Magen David Adom and the 101 line

Magen David Adom, often abbreviated in Hebrew as MDA, operates Israel's ambulance service and acts as the country's emergency medical responder. Members of the public reach it by dialling 101. The service is organised into regional branches, and the statement attributes the call to its Gilboa region, the branch covering the area around Afula. Its spokesperson's office routinely issues short statements on incidents its crews attend, usually limited to the time of the call, the number of casualties, their condition and where they were taken. Those statements describe medical facts and generally leave questions of cause and motive to the police.

Israeli medical services grade casualties using a standard set of terms. A moderate condition sits between light and serious, and it indicates injuries that require hospital care without being described as life-threatening at the time of the report.

Afula and HaEmek Medical Center

Afula is a city in the Jezreel Valley in northern Israel and serves as a regional centre for the surrounding communities. HaEmek Medical Center, whose name means "the valley" in Hebrew, is the main hospital in the city and receives emergency cases from across the area. Jerusalem Street is a street in Afula and should not be confused with the city of Jerusalem.

How the event was reported

Both accounts were posted on the organisations' Telegram channels, which Israeli media and emergency services use to publish early updates on breaking incidents. The N12 item, carried under the name of reporter Or Ravid, appeared a few minutes before the Magen David Adom statement. Early reports of this kind are typically brief and are often updated as police and hospitals release more information.

What the reports do not say

Neither report names the wounded man or gives any detail about him beyond his age. Neither says whether a suspect was identified, arrested or is being sought, and neither cites the Israel Police, which would normally lead any investigation into a stabbing. The suggestion of a criminal background comes from N12 alone and is framed as likely rather than confirmed. Neither report describes what led to the incident, how many people were involved, what weapon was used or whether anyone else was hurt. There is no update in the material on the man's condition after he reached hospital.

How we checked this

The casualty's age, condition, injuries and evacuation to HaEmek Medical Center are reported by both Magen David Adom and N12. The barbershop location, the description as a stabbing and the probable criminal motive come from N12 alone.
