A man of about 40 was seriously injured in a collision between two trucks on Route 6, south of the Sorek interchange, according to Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's national emergency medical and ambulance service. MDA's spokesperson said the call reached its 101 emergency dispatch centre in the Lachish region at 10:07, and that its medics and paramedics were treating a seriously injured person who was trapped at the scene. A medical helicopter landed at the site.

In a follow-up statement, MDA said the injured man was being flown by its helicopter service to Ichilov hospital in serious condition with multi-system trauma, meaning injuries affecting several parts of the body at once. The news site Ynet also carried a brief alert reporting one person seriously hurt in a crash between two trucks on Route 6.

Who responded

Magen David Adom, whose name means "Red Shield of David", is the body responsible for emergency medical response and ambulance transport across Israel. Members of the public reach it by dialling 101, the country's ambulance number, and calls are handled by regional dispatch centres. The Lachish region named in the statement is one of those MDA divisions; the statement did not say which locality the crash was closest to beyond the interchange.

MDA's crews include medics, who provide basic life support, and paramedics, who can deliver advanced care such as medication and airway management. In this case the organisation also sent an aircraft from its air arm, which it brands MDA-Hatzalah Air. "Hatzalah" is the Hebrew word for rescue. Helicopter evacuation is generally used when a patient's injuries are severe and road transport to a suitable trauma centre would take longer.

Where the crash happened

Route 6, also known in Israel as the Trans-Israel Highway or Kvish Shesh, is the country's main north-south toll motorway, running inland and parallel to the coastal roads. It carries a large share of the country's long-distance and heavy goods traffic, which is why truck collisions on it are not unusual. The Sorek interchange takes its name from the Sorek stream area, and the crash took place on the stretch heading south from that junction.

The patient was taken to Ichilov, the name most Israelis use for the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, one of the country's major hospitals and trauma centres, located in central Tel Aviv.

How the reports fit together

The two organisations agree on the core facts: two trucks were involved, the location was Route 6, and one person was seriously injured. MDA's two statements add the details on timing, location, the patient's age and condition, the use of the helicopter and the destination hospital. Ynet's alert is a short headline that points readers to a fuller article on its website, which was not part of the material available to us, so the additional details here rest on MDA's account.

MDA's first statement described the injured person as trapped, which in Israeli emergency reporting usually refers to someone caught inside a damaged vehicle who must be freed before evacuation. Its second statement, issued shortly afterwards, did not repeat that word and focused on the evacuation.

What the reports do not say

  • Whether the injured man was driving one of the trucks, or was a passenger, is not stated.
  • Neither organisation says whether anyone in the second truck was hurt, or whether there were other casualties.
  • The cause of the collision is not given, and no statement from the Israel Police, which normally investigates serious road crashes, appears in the material.
  • There is no information on whether lanes of Route 6 were closed or for how long.
  • The man's condition after arrival at Ichilov has not been reported.

This report will be updated only if further confirmed information becomes available from the organisations involved.

How we checked this

The crash, the two trucks, Route 6 and one serious injury were reported by both Magen David Adom and Ynet. The time of the call, the man's age, his injuries, the helicopter evacuation and the hospital come from MDA's statements alone.
