A man of about 20 was shot in Umm al-Fahm, an Arab city in northern Israel, and died after being taken to hospital, according to the emergency service Magen David Adom and several Israeli news outlets. Magen David Adom said its dispatch centre for the Gilboa region received a call at 10:12 about a man with gunshot wounds who had been brought to a local clinic in the city. Its medics and paramedics treated him and took him to HaEmek Hospital while performing resuscitation, describing his condition as critical.

Ynet reported that his death was confirmed at the hospital and named him as Nimer Jabareen. Ynet and The Times of Israel both said a second man suffered light injuries in the same incident. The Times of Israel reported that police were collecting evidence at the scene and described the shooting as "apparently criminal" in nature, as opposed to nationalist.

Who responded and where he was taken

Magen David Adom, often shortened to MDA, is Israel's national emergency medical and ambulance service. Calls reach it through its 101 emergency line, which routes them to regional dispatch centres; in this case the call was handled by the Gilboa region. MDA's account specifies that the victim did not wait at the scene for an ambulance but was first brought to a clinic inside Umm al-Fahm, where its crews then took over his care.

HaEmek Hospital, whose name means "the valley" in Hebrew, is located in Afula, according to The Times of Israel. It is one of the hospitals that receives emergency cases from the surrounding area, including Umm al-Fahm.

The identity of the victim

The reports agree on the name Nimer Jabareen, with Hebrew outlets rendering it in slightly different spellings. The Times of Israel said the identification came from Arabic-language media and gave his age as 20, while MDA and Ynet described him more loosely as a young man of about 20.

One report goes further. N12, citing its correspondent Or Ravid, said Jabareen was linked to a large crime organisation operating in Arab society. None of the other three reports mention any such connection, and no police statement in the material addresses it. The claim rests on N12 alone.

What "criminal" means in police terminology

When Israeli police describe a killing as criminal, they are distinguishing it from a nationalist attack, the term used in Israel for violence motivated by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The label signals that investigators see the shooting as rooted in crime, such as disputes between individuals, families or gangs, rather than in politics. The Times of Israel reported that police used this framing here, with the qualifier "apparently", meaning the assessment was preliminary.

Violence in Arab communities

Arab citizens make up a significant minority of Israel's population, and many live in towns and cities in the north such as Umm al-Fahm. Hebrew media commonly refer to this population as ha-hevra ha-aravit, "Arab society", and track killings within it as a distinct category because of the persistent level of gun violence there.

Ynet placed this shooting in that context, reporting that 179 people had been killed in Arab society since the start of the year. That figure is Ynet's tally; the material does not include an official police count to compare it with.

What the reports do not say

None of the reports describe how the shooting happened: where exactly in Umm al-Fahm it took place, how many people fired, or whether the two wounded men were together. The identity and condition of the second, lightly injured man beyond that description are not given, nor is it stated where he was treated.

The reports do not mention any arrests or suspects, and they give no motive beyond the police description of the incident as apparently criminal. The alleged link to a crime organisation is reported by N12 only and is not confirmed by police in any of the material. The time of death is also not specified, beyond Ynet's statement that it was pronounced at the hospital.
