A man and a woman, both around 30 years old, were killed in a collision between two private cars on Route 6678 near Sde Eliyahu, in the Beit Shean area of northern Israel. According to Magen David Adom, the call came in at 21:50 to its 101 emergency line in the Gilboa region, and its medics and paramedics pronounced the two dead at the scene with injuries to multiple parts of the body.

Three other people were hurt. Magen David Adom said its crews treated them and took them to HaEmek hospital: a woman of about 25 in moderate condition, also with multiple injuries, and two people with light injuries. Ynet reported that the man and woman who died had been travelling together when their car struck another vehicle and flipped over, and that they were found without signs of life.

Who reported it

Magen David Adom, usually shortened to MDA, is Israel's national emergency medical and ambulance service, and a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its dispatch centres take calls on the 101 number, the Israeli equivalent of an ambulance emergency line, and its spokesperson's office routinely publishes short initial accounts of serious incidents shortly after crews arrive. Those first statements typically give the time of the call, the location, the number of casualties, approximate ages and a medical assessment of each person's condition. They do not normally address the cause of a crash, which is a matter for the police.

Ynet is the news website of the Yedioth Ahronoth group and one of the most widely read Hebrew-language news outlets in Israel. Its brief report added detail about what happened to the car carrying the two people who died.

Where the crash happened

Sde Eliyahu is a kibbutz, a collective agricultural community, in the Beit Shean Valley. The valley lies in the north-east of the country, south of the Sea of Galilee and close to the Jordan River and the border with Jordan. The town of Beit Shean is the main urban centre of the area, which is largely rural and served by a network of regional roads connecting kibbutzim and moshavim, the cooperative farming villages common in the region. Route 6678 is one of those local roads.

MDA operates on a regional basis, and the Gilboa region named in its statement covers the area around Mount Gilboa and the valleys to its east, including Beit Shean. HaEmek Medical Center, where the injured were taken, is the main hospital serving the Jezreel Valley and surrounding communities in the north.

The wider picture on Israel's roads

Ynet put the crash in the context of the year's road toll, reporting that 360 people have been killed on Israel's roads since the start of the year. The outlet did not say which body compiled that figure. Road deaths are a recurring public concern in Israel, and fatal crashes on rural and regional roads, where traffic often mixes private cars with agricultural and heavy vehicles, are reported regularly by MDA and the Israeli media.

How the two accounts differ

The two reports agree on the core facts: two deaths, a man and a woman of about 30, and three others taken to hospital. They differ in emphasis and detail. Ynet said the victims' car overturned after the collision. MDA's statement describes a crash between two private vehicles but does not mention a vehicle overturning. MDA gives the condition and approximate age of each of the injured, while Ynet says only that three more people were hurt and evacuated. MDA says its teams pronounced the two dead; Ynet says they were found lifeless.

What the reports do not say

Neither report names the people who were killed or injured, or says where they were from. Neither says what caused the collision, which car was at fault, or whether the injured were travelling in the second vehicle or in the car that overturned. Neither mentions a police investigation, road closures or the weather and road conditions at the time. The reports also do not give an update on the condition of the woman in moderate condition after her arrival at hospital. Those details, if they emerge, are likely to come from the Israel Police or the hospital rather than from the first responders' initial account.

How we checked this

The deaths and the three injuries were reported by both Magen David Adom and Ynet. The time, road number and condition of the injured come from MDA alone, while the overturned car and the annual toll of 360 are attributed to Ynet only; we have not independently verified either account.
