Shooting at a house in Bi'ina near Karmiel leaves at least 4 wounded
Gunfire at a home in the Galilee town of Bi'ina sent several men to hospital in Nahariya, with medics and the hospital giving different casualty counts.

Several people were wounded in the evening when shots were fired at a house in Bi'ina, a town close to Karmiel in northern Israel. Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, said its dispatch centre in the Asher region received a call at 20:56 about 4 wounded people in the town. Its medics and paramedics treated 4 men and took them to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
According to the ambulance service, 1 of the men, aged 56, was in serious condition, and the other 3, all around 30 years old, were in moderate condition. All had what it described as penetrating injuries. The Israeli news site Ynet reported a higher figure, saying 6 people were hurt, two of them seriously and four moderately, and that the shooting had a criminal background.
Conflicting casualty figures
The reports do not agree on how many people were hurt. Ynet's first alert on the incident spoke of four people wounded by gunfire aimed at a house near Karmiel. Later, a Ynet alert attributed to the Galilee Medical Center said 6 wounded people had been taken there from the shooting in Bi'ina, two in serious condition.
Magen David Adom's statement, issued between those two alerts, lists 4 men evacuated by its crews, with one in serious condition. The reports do not explain the difference. It is possible that some of the wounded reached the hospital by other means, but no report states this, and this article does not assume it. Readers should treat both figures as provisional.
The hospital response
Ynet reported that the hospital in Nahariya activated a reinforced trauma setup to treat the casualties. The Galilee Medical Center is a major hospital in the north of the country, and Nahariya, where it is located, is a city on the Mediterranean coast. A reinforced trauma setup means the hospital brings in additional staff and resources so that several injured patients arriving together can be treated at the same time.
Who reported what
Magen David Adom, often shortened to MDA, is Israel's national ambulance and paramedic service. Members of the public reach it through the emergency number 101. Its spokesperson's office publishes brief statements after incidents, usually giving the time the call came in, the number of casualties, their ages, their condition and where they were taken. These statements describe medical details and do not address who was responsible or why an incident happened.
Ynet is one of Israel's most widely read news websites. Its breaking news channel published the alerts cited here, and its main site carried a fuller item. The description of the shooting as criminal in nature comes from Ynet; MDA's statement does not discuss a motive.
Where Bi'ina is
Bi'ina is a town in the Galilee, the hilly northern region of Israel, and sits near the city of Karmiel. The wounded were taken from there to Nahariya for treatment, the nearest major hospital named in the reports.
Crime-related shootings
Shootings linked to criminal disputes have been a recurring issue in Arab towns in northern Israel, and the subject comes up regularly in Israeli public debate about policing and personal security in those communities. Ynet's report places this incident in the criminal category, but it does not say what the dispute was or who was involved.
What the reports do not say
The material available leaves several questions open:
- How many people were actually wounded. MDA says 4, while Ynet and the Galilee Medical Center figure cited by Ynet put the number at 6.
- Whether anyone has been arrested or identified as a suspect. None of the reports mentions a police statement.
- Who lived in the house that was targeted, and whether the wounded men were residents, relatives or visitors.
- What the criminal background mentioned by Ynet involves.
- Whether the condition of any of the wounded has changed since the first reports.

How we checked this
The shooting was reported by Magen David Adom and by Ynet, which also cited the Galilee Medical Center. The casualty count differs between them (4 versus 6), and the criminal motive is reported by Ynet alone; we have not independently verified either.
