Young child riding a scooter killed by bus on a Modiin Illit street
Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene on Avnei Nezer Street; reports differ on whether he was 5 or 6, and police are investigating.

A young boy riding a scooter was killed after being struck by a bus on Avnei Nezer Street in Modiin Illit, according to Israel's national emergency medical service. Magen David Adom (MDA) said its Ayalon region dispatch centre received the call at 17:10, reporting a scooter rider who had been hit by a bus. MDA medics and paramedics who reached the scene found a child with injuries to multiple body systems and no signs of life, and they declared him dead on the spot.
The Israeli news site Ynet also reported the death, saying the MDA crew had no choice but to pronounce the child dead where he lay. Ynet quoted the emergency team as saying "the injury was critical" and reported that police have opened an investigation into the collision.
A discrepancy over the child's age
The two reports do not agree on how old the boy was. MDA described him as a child of about 5. Ynet gave his age as 6. MDA's wording is approximate, which is typical of initial statements from paramedics at a scene, where a casualty's exact age is often not yet confirmed. Neither report names the child, and this article does not attempt to resolve the difference between the two figures.
Who reported the incident
Magen David Adom, whose name means "Red Star of David", is Israel's national ambulance and emergency medical service and a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Members of the public reach it by dialling 101, the country's emergency medical number, and calls are routed to regional dispatch centres. The Ayalon region, which MDA said handled this call, is one of those operational districts. MDA's spokesperson's office routinely issues short statements on its public channels after serious incidents, giving the time of the call, the location and the condition of those treated. Those statements are often the first official account of an event and are picked up by Israeli media.
Ynet is the website of the Yedioth Ahronoth media group and one of Israel's most widely read Hebrew news outlets. Its report followed MDA's statement and added that police had begun investigating.
Where it happened
Modiin Illit is a city with a largely ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) population, situated beyond the boundary known as the Green Line, between Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv area. It is separate from the neighbouring city of Modiin, which has a similar name. Avnei Nezer Street, where the collision took place, is a street within Modiin Illit. Haredi communities in Israel tend to have large families and a high proportion of young children, many of whom move around their neighbourhoods on foot or on scooters.
What the terms mean
The Hebrew word used in both reports, korkinet, means scooter. It can refer to a simple kick scooter or to an electric one, and neither report specifies which kind the child was riding. MDA's phrase describing the injury, translated here as injuries to multiple body systems, is a standard medical term in its statements for severe trauma affecting several parts of the body at once, commonly seen in collisions with vehicles.
How such cases are handled
In Israel, the police investigate fatal road collisions, examining the circumstances, the vehicles involved and the conduct of those at the scene. Ynet's report states only that police are investigating; it does not describe what lines of inquiry they are pursuing or whether anyone has been questioned.
What the reports do not say
Several basic facts are missing from both accounts. Neither report names the boy or confirms his exact age, given the conflict between 5 and 6. Neither describes how the collision happened: whether the bus was moving forward, turning or reversing, whether the child was on the road or crossing it, or whether an adult was with him. The reports do not identify the bus operator, the route, or the driver, and they do not say whether the driver was detained or questioned. They do not state whether the scooter was electric. Nor do they say whether anyone else was hurt or whether the police have reached any initial findings. Until police or other officials release further information, these questions remain open.

How we checked this
The death was reported by Magen David Adom in an official statement and by Ynet; both agree on the location and that the boy died at the scene. They differ on his age, and the police investigation is reported only by Ynet.
