A young man aged about 20 was seriously wounded on Yefet Street in Jaffa, the historic port district that forms part of the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality. The Israeli news channel N12 reported that he was hurt by gunfire, and that paramedics took him to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon. He was unconscious and had penetrating injuries when he was evacuated.
According to a statement from the spokesperson's office of Magen David Adom, the call came in to the service's 101 emergency line for the Dan region at 19:36. Its medics and paramedics treated the man at the scene before transferring him to Wolfson, where he was listed in serious condition. N12 added that police have opened an investigation into the incident.
Who reported what
The two reports agree on the essentials: the location, the approximate age of the casualty, his serious condition, the fact that he was unconscious with penetrating wounds, and the hospital he was taken to. They differ in what they state about the cause. N12 describes the injury as resulting from gunfire. The Magen David Adom statement says only that a man was injured on Yefet Street and refers to penetrating injuries, without saying how they were caused. That is common in the service's statements, which typically describe medical findings and leave the circumstances to the police.
Magen David Adom places the incident in Tel Aviv-Yafo, the official name of the combined city, while N12 names Jaffa specifically. Both refer to the same street.
Magen David Adom and the 101 line
Magen David Adom, often shortened to MDA and meaning "Red Star of David", is Israel's national emergency medical and ambulance service and the country's member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its dispatch number is 101, and calls are handled through regional centres. The Dan region, named in the statement, covers Tel Aviv and the surrounding metropolitan area, including Jaffa and Holon.
MDA's spokesperson's office routinely publishes short initial updates on emergency calls, giving the time a call was received, the condition of casualties and where they are being taken. These are early, operational notices rather than full accounts of an event.
Jaffa and Wolfson Medical Center
Jaffa is one of the oldest port towns on the eastern Mediterranean and today forms the southern part of the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality. It has a mixed population of Jewish and Arab residents. Wolfson Medical Center is a public hospital in Holon, a city just south of Tel Aviv, and is among the hospitals that receive casualties from Jaffa and the southern parts of the municipality.
How such incidents are handled
When a person is wounded by gunfire in Israel, the Israel Police take responsibility for the investigation, while emergency medical services deal with treatment and evacuation. N12's report that police have opened an investigation is the standard first step. Police typically release further details, such as whether arrests have been made or what the suspected background is, separately and later than the medical updates. Neither report below includes any statement from the police beyond the fact that an investigation is under way; the photograph accompanying the N12 item was credited to the police spokesperson's unit.
What the reports do not say
Neither report names the wounded man or says where he lives. Neither gives any information about who fired, how many shots were fired, whether a suspect has been identified or detained, or what the motive may have been. N12 does not say whether the incident is being treated as criminal or as having any other background, and the MDA statement does not mention gunfire at all. Neither report says whether anyone else was hurt.
There is also no update on the man's condition after he reached hospital. The reports describe his state at the time he was evacuated, unconscious and in serious condition, and say nothing about surgery, treatment at Wolfson or his prognosis. Israel.com will update this report if police or the hospital release further information.

How we checked this
The incident, the casualty's age, condition and evacuation to Wolfson were reported by both Magen David Adom and N12. That the wounds came from gunfire and that police opened an investigation are attributed to N12 alone; we have not independently verified either.
The account of the incident itself rests on the official statement and has not been independently confirmed by Israel.com. Where the statement is silent, this page says so rather than filling the gap.
