Farm 18, Moshav Agur, the Elah Valley, Agur

A family boutique winery inside its own vineyard in Moshav Agur, in the Elah Valley, with a visitors' centre for tastings and light meals and four guest suites

Mettler Winery is run by Heinz and Leah Mettler on Farm 18 in Moshav Agur. Its site tells how they moved from Hod HaSharon to the Elah Valley to live close to the land, planted orchards and vines, and founded the winery in 2014; Heinz came from Switzerland about 30 years ago, and Leah, a painter and ceramicist, hangs her paintings in the house and the suites. The farm now yields about 7,000 bottles a year, of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, rosé and Blanc de Noirs, with grappa, fruit liqueurs from a small still, and preserves. At the visitors' centre, facing the vineyard, guests taste five wines with fresh bread, cheeses from a small Israeli dairy and Leah's dips, or sit over a bottle with a cheese platter, burrata, salads and bread. Four suites stand on the farm, and the winery also holds painting workshops and small events for up to 45 people.
