Bar Café Ashalim calls itself the culture and music centre of Ashalim and the area: a new non-profit community venture in the Ayalim association's student village at Ashalim, set up by Ayalim, the Ramat Negev youth centre and the Ashalim community. Its stage mixes the feel of a Tiny Desk session with the desert, with shows from acoustic to electric of Israeli indie, R&B and Mediterranean rock, and its site names Rona Kenan, Yoshi and Lihi Toledano among the artists who have played there alongside new names. The bar and café serve coffee from a local roastery, pastries and dishes from suppliers it picks, boutique wines and craft beers, and what it earns goes back to the community through shows, fairs and local events. It is run by workers and students of the village and volunteers from the area, with professionals in community work, food and production.
